Three New Matches Announced for RAW Day 1 2023 Special, Nia Jax Joins Women’s Royal Rumble Field
Monday’s RAW show featured three new matches officially announced for WWE RAW Day 1 show on January 1, 2024 in San Diego, California.
The first match announced was a singles match of Nia Jax vs. Becky Lynch.
This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Jax and Lynch. Jax was the first to come out but before she could say anything, Lynch’s music played interrupting Jax. Lynch made her way to the ring resulting in Jax getting out of the ring to avoid a confrontation. Lynch grabbed a microphone and asked where Jax was going which led to Jax responding that before Lynch came out, she was going to announce that she officially declared herself for the Women’s Royal Rumble match at next month’s Royal Rumble 2024 event.
Jax and Lynch engaged in some insults-filled banter over Jax boasting that the reason why they never fought before was due to WWE officials being scared that Jax would destroy Lynch and Lynch mocking Jax for being a nobody who only rides the coat tails of others for any notoriety in WWE. Lynch then demanded a match between the two which Jax agreed and called out for a ref to come out. Jax then teased going back into the ring but backed away and stated that this match will only happen on her terms and at WWE’s RAW Day 1 show in two weeks in front of her home town. Later in the show, it was announced that this match was made official for RAW Day 1 show.

The second new match announced was a WWE Women’s World Championship match of Ivy Nile vs. Rhea Ripley.
This match was setup following a backstage segment involving Alpha Academy. Nile stated to the other members of the group that she had asked RAW General Manager Adam Pearce for a match for Ripley’s Women’s World title following Ripley’s threat to her earlier in the show. In a follow-up segment, Ripley told the rest of Judgement Day that she was upset over JD McDonagh’s loss to R-Truth earlier. Ripley also told Priest to stop with his issues with McDonagh since he was not kicking him out of the group for losing a “Loser Leaves Judgement Day” stip since were not going to actually honor R-Truth’s match stip. Ripley then gave her response to Nile getting a shot at her title and revealed that this would be taking place at the RAW Day 1 show.
The third new match announced was a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship #1 Contender match of Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark vs. Natayla & Tegan Nox.
This match was setup following a backstage segment involving Baszler, Stark, Natayla, and Nox discussing Kayden Carter and Katana Chance becoming the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions and coming to an agreement that they should determine who gets to challenge Carter and Chance for their titles. Later in the show, it was announced that this match would be taking place at the RAW Day 1 show.
