More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for December 27th
The December 27th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite New Year’s Smash 2023 special.
AEW drew 843,000 viewers and a 0.31 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night is currently not known.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their female key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were up 44.3% and 10.1% compared to last week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards drew 246,000 viewers on NBA TV, the College football Holiday Bowl 2023 game of USC vs. Louisville drew 3,510,000 viewers on FOX, the College football Texas Bowl 2023 game of Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M drew 3,080,000 viewers on ESPN, and the NHL game of Boston Bruins vs. Buffalo Sabres drew 438,000 viewers on TNT.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 408,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 106,000 viewers (up 5%), Females 18-34 was 50,000 viewers (up 31.6%), Males 35-49 was 175,000 viewers (up 10.1%), and Females 35-49 was 77,000 viewers (up 54%). Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 281,000 male viewers and 127,000 female viewers for a split of 68.9% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 983,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 781,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 3.8% in overall viewership but up 11.8% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was up 18% compared to the same week last year.

The December 22nd episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a slight increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being the Rampage Holiday Bash 2023 special.
AEW drew 363,000 viewers and a 0.10 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 17th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large gain from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was up 73.3% compared to the prior week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Washington Wizards vs. Golden State Warriors drew 1,427,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Illinois vs. Missouri drew 450,000 viewers on FS1, the College basketball game of Maryland vs. UCLA drew 258,000 viewers on ESPN2, Bering Sea Gold drew 925,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, 90 Day Fiance First Look drew 283,000 viewers on TLC, Love After Lockup drew 202,000 viewers on WETV, and House Hunters drew 642,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 134,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 28,000 viewers (up 33.3%), Females 18-34 had 24,000 viewers (up 166.7%), Males 35-49 had 64,000 viewers (up 3.2%), and Females 35-49 had 18,000 viewers (up 20%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 92,000 male viewer and 42,000 female viewers for a split of 68.7% in favor of males.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 35.9% in overall viewership and down 43% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 46.9% compared to the same week last year.

The December 23rd episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a large increase in key demographic rankings, a small increase in key demographic rankings, and a slight increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for being the Collision Holiday Bash 2023 special.
AEW drew 489,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 9th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases that week was due to the weaker than usual sports competition that night especially from UFC and the large gains from their younger female key demographic viewership and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were up 192.9% and 25% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large declines from their younger male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were down 42.6% and 30.3% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.
In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the College football 68 Ventures Bowl game of South Alabama vs. Eastern Michigan drew 765,000 viewers on ESPN, the College football Las Vegas Bowl game of Northwestern vs. Utah drew 3,090,000 viewers on ABC, the College basketball game of St. John’s vs. UCONN drew 961,000 viewers on FOX, and 90 Day Other Way drew 388,000 viewers on TLC.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 210,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 31,000 viewers (down 42.6%), Females 18-34 had 41,000 viewers (up 192.9%), Males 35-49 had 115,000 viewers (up 25%), and Females 35-49 had 23,000 viewers (down 30.3%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 146,000 male viewers and 64,000 female viewers for a split of 69.5% in favor of males.
