King reportedly needed assistance to the back after her match and was seen holding her knee as she exited.
No other details regarding the nature nor severity of King’s injury is currently known.
Jade Chung Comments on Becoming Impact/TNA’s New Ring Announcer
As noted before, Impact Wrestling announced this past Monday that they have named Jade Chung as the new ring announcer for the company following Dave Penzer’s recent departure.
A recent episode of Fightful’s In The Weeds podcast featured Chung as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Chung’s thoughts about her new ring announcer role in Impact.
“Scott D’Amore just gave me that chance. I’ll tell you a funny story to start off. I always hated my voice, and I mean hate it. I know a lot of people don’t enjoy their voice, but I hated my voice. Promos, I did not enjoy. I did them, but didn’t enjoy them. Scott likes to challenge me, and I took it full force, I wanted to prove to him that I could do this. My kids are watching, my husband is cheering me on, so this is something I truly had to succeed in. Scott was like, ‘We’re going to get you to host.’ Then, it turned into ‘we’re going to get you to ring announce some BTI matches.’ I have to tell you, I fell in love almost instantly. I say almost because I was so nervous. I have never done any type of ring announcing, ever, in my life. I was so nervous, but I fell in love with it. With the help of Tom Hannifan. I remember, to this day in Chicago, he saw I was visibly nervous, and he kind of just pulled me aside and gave me some words of super encouragement that have helped me to this day. He’s helped me so much. Him, along with Matthew Rehwoldt, David Penzer, they’ve always been so supportive.”
Chung also commented about how Impact commentator Tom Hannifan and former Impact ring announcer David Penzer helped prepare her for her new ring announcer job in the company.
“David has always been supportive. He hypes me up. When I thanked him, I told him that I hope to make him proud. He said he had no doubt and that he’ll be watching. That already meant so much to me. He was always there. Right in the beginning, when I was first announcing, he would text me where the guys were from, where the girls were from, and just made sure that I knew what I was saying, if I wanted to relay things back to him, he was always there to listen. He always made sure to tell me, ‘I’m here if you need me.’ The guys there are so supportive. It warms my heart and I truly do not believe I would be in the position that I am today if I didn’t have that help from [Tom Hannifan & David Penzer]. I have to mention Greg Hamilton. Tom actually put me in contact with Greg, who used to be a ring announcer with WWE. He took one hour of his day to just talk to me and help guide me through being comfortable in front of the mic and listen to my voice and kind of just walking me through. It was almost like a therapy session. He’s walking me through my thought process. It’s almost like he said, ‘You know you’ve got this. You just have to get past that wall you’ve built up for yourself. Once you get past that wall, you’re golden.’ That helped a lot.”
