AEW: Jim Ross Health & Return Status Update, Mariah May on Her Signing with AEW, Ruby Soho on Career Future

Jim Ross Health & AEW Break Status Update

As noted before, AEW commentator Jim Ross has been on a break from AEW since this past November due to him needing to heal up his leg some more from a injury he suffered from a fall incident this past June.

A recent episode of the Grilling JR podcast featured co-host Jim Ross providing an update on his current health status.

“I’m good, Connie. Feeling good. Medicals are doing good, blood sugar is coming down. Those nightly insulin shots I give myself in my fat ass stomach, I got plenty of territory hidden for that needle not to go in the same place twice. My blood sugar, which is a huge issue, that’s what’s retarding the healing of my leg, the blood sugar. So it’s damned if you do, damned if you don’t. So I’m getting an MRI next week to make sure that there’s no damage to the bone in my leg, just as a precaution. You know, I don’t want to deal with bone cancer, for God’s sake. We’re pretty sure that ain’t gonna be the case. So we’ll get an MRI next week just to bring that to a close. I’ll give you an example. Two weeks ago, my blood sugar was 300. That’s death material, I was told. Ignorance is bliss, sometimes. Then, three to four days ago, my blood sugar was 100. So it’s coming down. Now, it hasn’t stayed at 100. is still in the low 100s, the goal is to get it under 200 and keep it there.

I’m good today and I might be good tomorrow. It’s just I’m not good all the time and I want to be good all the time. So it’s a lot of moving parts, Connie. I really do appreciate all the fans on social media. Because I read the tweets or the Xs or whatever we call them today. I really appreciate the support. It’s heartwarming, it’s heartwarming. It is meaningful. I’m not bullshitting nobody. I don’t bullshit nobody on the show, or anywhere. Anytime else I keep from it. Sometimes my frigging mouth gets me in trouble, but it’s just being honest. So that’s where I stand. Good news on more fronts than not. The medicines that have been prescribed to me are working. Mentally, I feel like I’m back in the hunt. competitively.”

Ross also stated that he is currently not sure when he will be able to make his potential return to AEW nor his future in the company.

“I have no idea what my future is at AEW. I have no clue. To be very frank about it, I’m not worried about it, yay or nay. I mean, my work should stand on its own after 50 years, for God’s sake, I mean, seriously. So sometimes I worry too much. I think it’s just a matter of being an alpha male and wanting to do whatever it is on my terms. I understand that’s not always possible, but I do appreciate all the feedback is is very meaningful to me.”

Mariah May Comments on Her Recent Signing with AEW

A recent episode of the AEW Unrestricted podcast featured Mariah May as the guest. One of the topics discussed included May’s thoughts on the process that led to her signing with AEW.

“I was in STARDOM, I had just done the big pay-per-view, All Star Grand Queendom and I did commentary on it, which actually got me a big buzz, doing commentary. I had been wrestling there for maybe four or five months, and then AEW reached out and Tony reached out. They enjoyed what I was doing and they wanted me to come to AEW, which I was very surprised. I didn’t think I was ready to go to America, to be on TV, I just didn’t know where it came from. I really wanted to go, but for me, going to STARDOM and Japan, that was something I wanted when I started training and I felt like I was just scratching the surface of what I could do and how I could grow as a performer, especially in ring. I said, ‘I really want to come, I can’t believe you guys want me, but I do want to finish off things I want to do in Japan.’ So, I did the 5-Star Grand Prix. That was such an amazing experience and I learned so much and I improved so much, so now when I come to AEW, I have a lot more to offer than I did in May. That was our original conversation and we talked about idea and I was really excited. I was in Japan, doing what I was doing, but AEW…it was a lot happening in my mind of, I’m really excited about this next step, but I wanted to finish off this chapter I had in STARDOM. That was our first chat.”

May also gave her thoughts about how she was able to keep her signing as a secret.

“I didn’t tell anybody. I guarded that secret with my life. I saw it leak. I actually woke up in the middle of the night in Japan. At the time it leaked, it was like 5 AM. I remember waking up, picking up my phone, and I never had that many notifications in my life. Some of the girls asked. ‘Mariah. Maybe AEW?’ ‘Ah, no.’ [Laughs]. Obviously, STARDOM is run by Rossy [Rossy Ogawa], who I have a very good relationship with. I felt bad not telling him, but somebody, I’m not going to name names, but somebody in the staff does leak stuff about the westerners in particular about where they’re going to go, what they’re going to do. I would have a direct conversation with somebody and they would put it on the dirtsheets. I shutdown my merch store, and the exact conversation I had about it ended up on the dirtsheets. I really wanted to be very honest with Rossy because I have a lot of respect for him, but I couldn’t tell him until literally the day I was going to debut. I sent him a message and thanked him and let him know I was going to AEW. He would instantly be like, ‘Mariah can’t come back next year, she’s going to AEW,’ and then it would all leak so I had to really keep it a secret. I had to keep it to myself and then towards then end, I let some of the girls know.”

Ruby Soho Comments on AEW Being Her Home for Future of Her Career

Alicia Atout held a recent interview with Ruby Soho. One of the topics discussed included Soho’s thoughts on AEW being her home for the future of her career.

“As far as which company I’m gonna go to, I think that’s pretty clear because I love this place, AEW is my home and will forever be my home. Currently, my destination is a little unknown. There is a lot going on right now. Saraya is feeling some type of way. I have some guy that is trying to ‘court me.’ I don’t know what’s happening right now with me. I’m gonna have to start doing what’s best for me and I’m getting pulled in a lot of directions.”
