As noted before, TKO Group announced this past Tuesday that WWE recently signed a new television deal with The CW for their NXT television series starting in October of 2024. Prior to TKO’s announcement, the National Wrestling Alliance was believed to have also signed a TV deal with The CW that was in jeopardy following a cocaine spot incident at an NWA event this past October.
Haus of Wrestling’s Nick Hausman reported that his sources stated that The CW officials had approached Tony Khan in June of 2022 regarding The CW’s interest in potential television deal for Ring of Honor. Hausman reported that it is currently not known if this was before The CW’s talks with the NWA and WWE.
Hausman reported that Khan did not purse talks with The CW due to him not wanting to seriously entertain new media rights deals for ROH until after AEW’s own television rights are in play in 2024. Khan reportedly is currently under the belief that by waiting until a later date, he will have more options and leverage for television talks for AEW and ROH in the marketplace.
Hausman also reported that those spoken to stated that Khan found the CW executive to be very pleasant and someone he enjoyed visiting with but he simply felt it was just not the right time to make a deal for ROH.
Besides ROH, NWA, and WWE, Hasuman reported that those spoken to stated that The CW was also in talks with two other promotions recently for potential television deals. CW officials reportedly are currently open to hosting multiple pro wrestling promotions on their network and Women of Wrestling is expected to continue to air their WOW TV shows during the same timeframe as WWE does for their NXT shows on USA Network.
