Saturday’s AEW Full Gear 2023 event featured MJF defeating Jay White to retain his AEW World Championship. In the lead-up to the match, AEW did a show long injury angle involving MJF’s status for his title match being in doubt after The Gunns injured his leg with a chair at the end of the Zero Hour pre-show. During the post-show media scrum, MJF stated that he had dislocated his hip during the match itself.
WrestlePurists reported that their sources confirmed that MJF had suffered a legitimate injury at Full Gear 2023. MJF reportedly suffered a dislocated hip injury following a top rope elbow drop spot to White on the outside. This spot was originally meant to involve MJF doing an elbow drop to White to send him through the announcer’s table but the table broke apart sending White to the floor before MJF could perform the move. MJF decided to go ahead with his move despite the table not being there to break his fall resulting in him suffering a hip injury.
It was reported that MJF had his hip popped back into place after the match backstage.
Besides a hip injury, it was also reported that MJF also suffered a banged up shoulder following his rough landing from a Uranage spot by White during their match.
AEW officials reportedly currently do not expect MJF to miss any AEW television time due to these injuries but their current plan is for him to be featured in a non-wrestling capacity in order to allow him to heal up in time for next month’s Worlds End event on December 30th.
