As noted before, Saturday’s Bound For Glory 2023 event for Impact Wrestling featured the official announcement of Impact rebranding back to their former name of TNA (Total Nonstop Action) Wrestling in January of 2024.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that Impact officials had been planning on making an announcement regarding their rebranding back to TNA Wrestling as far back as this past July’s Slammiversary 2023 event. Johnson reported that Impact officials had locked in their final decision to revert back to their former company name around two to three weeks ago.
In regards to the reasons for the rebranding, Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that Impact officials wanted to “unite” the fragmented history of the promotion, which had been known under different names throughout its history such as TNA, Global Force Wrestling, and Impact Wrestling. Another reason reportedly involved the company’s international partners preferred the former TNA names and at times were still using this name internally. A third reason reportedly involved a quiet poll that the company had asked long-term fans earlier this year that resulted in many of them had preferred the TNA name. Impact officials reportedly were also well aware of fans who have chanted the old “TNA” name at shows since they returned to touring.
Johnson reported that Impact officials had plans at one point when Moose brought back the old TNA World title to revive the TNA brand as a separate television series and potential spin-off promotion but these plans were eventually dropped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In regards to Impact’s weekly television series, Johnson reported that Impact will be rebranding their weekly Impact! series under the new name of TNA Impact Wrestling once the rebrand goes into effect.
In regards to Impact’s current championship belts, Johnson reported that Impact officials will be debuting new TNA Championship belts with the current title holders to use these new belts. Johnson also reported that these new belts have already been produced and Impact is just waiting until this January to officially debut these new belts.
In regards to the potential for the return of the old six-sided ring, Johnson reported that this was something that was never discussed by Impact officials for their TNA rebranding plans. Every talent reportedly still in Impact who ever worked in the old six-sided ring found the traditional four-sided ring to be much easier on their bodies.
Johnson also reported that the upcoming TNA rebranding will not affect current storylines, talent, nor style of Impact’s shows once the rebranding goes into effect. The only major change reportedly will involve the usage of the TNA name and logos for their product going forward.
