AEW News & Notes

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW currently has plans in place to hold a new pay-per-view event on December 30th.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that the recent rumors of AEW holding their currently planned December event at the Hammerstein Ballroom is not true.

Former Impact Wrestling talent Jake Crist reportedly was one of the extras used as security guards for the opening promo segment for this past Saturday’s AEW Collision show in Toledo, Ohio, according to PWInsider.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that the reason why Red Velvet has been absent from AEW for most of this year is due to her dealing with an undisclosed injury.

Figthful Select also reported that their sources stated that a tweet by Lance Archer earlier this month that stated “I’m not going anywhere” was not in any reference to him signing a potential new contract with AEW.

In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, former AEW talent Fuego del Sol stated that he is not a fan of MJF due to a backstage incident he had with MJF early into his career with AEW. Del Sol stated “This is not going to be good. People aren’t going to like me for this, but if I’m honest, I’m not a fan of this guy. To be real, I’m just not. We’re talking about the current AEW World Champion MJF. When I say I’m not a fan, I should reiterate, I try to never let my personal opinion get in the way of someone’s actual talent. He is talented as all hell. Incredible promo guy. When he does decide to wrestle, he puts on incredible matches and makes himself an attraction. However, early on in AEW, even before I got signed, he gave me one weird disparaging remark in front of a lot of people backstage. It was off-handed, I’m sure he doesn’t even remember it. I do though. Some people are going to go out of their way to critique you or congratulate you or help you out. He kind of stuck to himself in that regard, never really talked to me. I don’t think we are each other’s cup of tea. That doesn’t change the fact that he’s insanely talented. I would never let my personal opinion of someone get in the way of how good they are, and he’s great.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Hall of Fame with Booker T & Brad Gilmore podcast, Mark Henry gave his thoughts about his current backstage role and duties in AEW. Henry stated “I never changed titles. You know me. I’ve always been a conduit. I always been a guy that wanted the greater good to happen. I always wanted everybody to get to the top. I always wanted success for everybody. There was a time when I had a role. I helped run the community effort, the educational programming I ran. I don’t do that now. It’s a hard job that requires a lot of time. I’m spending more time working on the psychology side of wrestling with each individual wrestler. I like the fact that I can influence guys into seeing that everything don’t work for them. It’s more of being a psychology coach than a physical coach. We got guys that teach them how to do it. I teach them where to do it, when to do it, and why you’re doing it. Those are the things I feel like is the more important elements in pro wrestling.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent interview with the Battleground Podcast, Adam Copeland gave his thoughts about the current goals he has for his wrestling career. Copeland stated “That’s pretty exciting and a by-product of coming here is, ‘oh wait, hold on a second, Tokyo Dome.’ That’s on the checklist. Arena Mexico. I went there once. I was World Champion, but I wore a mask because I wanted to watch the show. I snuck in and watched the show with a mask on and just had a blast. I love the culture of lucha libre and the pageantry. Those two things would be very cool as a lifelong wrestling fan. Those experiences would be cool and I didn’t know they would ever be in the cards, so you have to write it off, especially after I had to retire in 2011, I couldn’t get those things done. Now I can get them done and that’s pretty fun.” Copeland also gave his thoughts about his interest in competing in a G1 Climax tournament for New Japan Pro Wrestling in the future. Copeland stated “We’d have to carve out some time, I guess. Eddie [Eddie Kingston] did it this year, so it’s a possibility.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
