WWE NXT Notes: Butch Wins Global Heritage Invitational, Two New Matches for No Mercy, Brian Pillman Jr. Debut Teaser

Butch Wins NXT Global Heritage Invitational Tournament

Tuesday’s WWE NXT show featured Group A winner Butch defeating Group B winner Joe Coffey in the Finals of the NXT Global Heritage Invitational Tournament.

The finish to this match involved Coffey hitting an All The Best for the Bells to Butch for a nearfall. Butch then rolled out of the ring and stood near the steel steps which led to Coffey getting out of the ring and attempted a running attack into the steps. Butch dodged out of the way causing Coffey to go head and shoulder first into the steps to knock him out. Butch then tossed Coffey back into the ring and hit the Bitter End for the pinfall victory to become the winner of the NXT Global Heritage Invitational Tournament.

As a result of his tournament victory, Butch will face off against Noam Dar for the NXT Heritage Cup at this Saturday’s NXT No Mercy event in Bakersfield, California.

Two New Matches Announced for NXT No Mercy

Tuesday’s NXT show also featured two new matches officially announced for the card of NXT No Mercy, which takes place on September 30th in Bakersfield, California.

The first new match announced was a NXT North American Championship Special Guest Referee match of Trick Williams vs. Dominik Mysterio (c).

This match was originally scheduled to be Mustafa Ali vs. Mysterio but was dropped following Ali’s release from WWE this past Thursday. During the show, Mysterio was involved in a backstage interview segment and boasted about having this weekend off since he did not have a match scheduled for NXT No Mercy. NXT backstage interviewer McKenzie Mitchell interrupted stating that NXT head booker Shawn Michaels had announced on Twitter that he would be defending his title against the winner of a #1 Contender’s match later tonight. This lead to Mysterio storming off in anger over the announcement. Later in the show, Trick Williams defeated Dragon Lee, Tyler Bate, and Axiom in a Fatal Four-way #1 Contender’s match for the NXT North American title. During the ad read for the card for NXT No Mercy, NXT commentator Vic Joseph announced that this match had a new stipulation added making it into a Special Guest Referee match for the title with Lee as the guest referee.

The second new match announced was a NXT Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way match – Los Lotharios (Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo) vs. The Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus Creed) vs. Lucien Price & Bronco Nima vs. Stacks & Tony D’Angelo (c).

This match was setup following Stacks and D’Angelo holding a meeting with Angel & Humberto, The Creed Brothers, and Price & Nima over a meal at a local fancy restaurant. After some constant bickering by everyone invited over who was more deserving of a title shot, D’Angelo stated that it would be a Fatal Four-way match for the NXT Tag Team titles so that nobody they invited could accuse them of playing favorites with anyone.

Updated card for NXT No Mercy:

  • NXT Championship – Ilja Dragunov vs. Carmelo Hayes (c)
  • NXT Women’s Championship Extreme Rules match – Tiffany Stratton vs. Becky Lynch (c)
  • NXT North American Championship Special Guest Referee match – Trick Williams vs. Dominik Mysterio (c) with guest ref Dragon Lee
  • NXT Heritage Cup – Butch vs. Noam Dar (c)
  • NXT Tag Team Championship Fatal Four-Way match – Los Lotharios (Angel Garza & Humberto Carillo) vs. The Creed Brothers (Julius & Brutus Creed) vs. Lucien Price & Bronco Nima vs. Stacks & Tony D’Angelo (c)
  • Bron Breakker vs. Baron Corbin
