As noted before, WWE was hit with another round of mass layoffs this past Friday as part of their post-sale to Endeavor and merger with UFC process. Following the completion of the layoffs, WWE President Nick Khan had informed all of the remaining employees that the company would be holding an all-employee meeting on Tuesday at their headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that the morale within WWE’s office this past Monday was stated to have been very bad and somber over the recent mass layoffs. Johnson reported that some within WWE were concerned that more layoffs could be on its way in the future due to not every department had been hit with layoffs. Johnson also reported that several current and former WWE employees spoken to over the weekend stated that they believed that this “wouldn’t have happened” under Stephanie McMahon’s watch had she not been pushed out of the company by her father Vince McMahon for his return.
In a separate report, Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that WWE officials held their all-employees meeting at around 11AM EST on Tuesday. Endeavor CEO Ari Emanuel, WWE President Nick Khan, and TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon reportedly were all present and spoke at this meeting that was described to be a “ra-ra” type gathering and they promised that the future and outlook for WWE looked great. This meeting reportedly lasted for around twelve to fifteen minutes in total.
Fightful Select reported that their sources provided additional details regarding this meeting. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Ari Emanuel mentioned to those present that his daughter Ashlee has been working for WWE in a creative assistant job.
It was reported that during the meeting, McMahon stated that he felt that WWE had plateaued or stagnated and that a merger with another company needed to happen to take the company to the next level for the reason why he decided to sell the company. The reaction within WWE over McMahon’s comments reportedly was stated to have caused a lot of eye rolls and disagreement over those claims. Several reportedly pointed out WWE touting record business numbers over the past year as evidence against McMahon’s claims. McMahon’s comments reportedly also led to many within the company to reaffirm their belief that McMahon had only done the deal so that he could return to WWE and be back in a position of power.
In regards to PWInsider’s report about the belief from some within WWE who felt that the layoffs would not have happened under Stephanie McMahon’s watch, it was reported that those spoken to stated that while she was beloved in the office, this still would have happened due to the merger. Those spoken to reportedly also stated that her own team got actively dismantled while she was still in the company.
