Penta El Zero Miedo & Samoa Joe Advances in AEW Title Eliminator Tournament
Friday’s AEW Rampage show in Indianapolis, Indiana featured two Grand Slam AEW World Title Eliminator Tournament Quarterfinals matches.
The first AEW World Title Eliminator tournament match featured Penta El Zero Miedo defeating Jay Lethal.
The finish to this match involved Lethal trying to take off Penta’s mask to no avail. Lethal then tried to hit a Lethal Injection only for Penta to counter with a dropkick for a nearfall. Lethal then yanked off Penta’s mask causing Penta to immediately cover up his head. While the referee was distracted, Lethal tried to grab the guitar that Jeff Jarrett had left at ringside earlier only to be stopped by Alex Abrahantes resulting in a tug of war between the two, which Abrahantes won in the end. This gave Penta enough time to put his mask back on and laid out Lethal. Penta then hit an arm breaker and Fear Factor combo to Lethal for the pinfall victory to advance to the next round in the AEW World title Eliminator tournament.

After Hardy was able to get back into the ring, Joe landed several jabs and body shots and taunted the crowd by mockingly applauding Hardy. Hardy responded with a flurry of attacks for a nearfall. Friday’s Rampage show in Indianapolis also featured one new match announced for the card of AEW Grand Slam 2023, which takes place on September 20th at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in Queens, New York.
This is a singles match of Sammy Guevara vs. Chris Jericho.
This match was setup during a promo segment on the stage involving Guevara and Jericho. Guevara called out Jericho over the recent issues they have had as a team since the Jericho Appreciation Society broke up. Jericho got up from the AEW commentary booth and responded agreeing that they both have been pissing each other off and they need to get over this animosity. Jericho then suggested a match between the two at Grand Slam 2023 as a way to “get all this crap out of their system” in order to focus on bigger things as a team. Jericho and Guevara shook hands and agreed to the match idea.
