WWE NXT Notes: Three New Matches Added to NXT Heatwave 2023, Updated NXT Heatwave Card

Tuesday’s NXT show featured three new matches officially added to the card of next week’s NXT Heatwave 2023 special.

The first new match announced was a singles match of Baron Corbin vs. Von Wagner.

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment involving Corbin, Wagner, and Mr. Stone. Corbin started off bragging about running off an Olympic gold medalist out of NXT in reference to Gable Steveson and then insulted the rest of NXT’s locker room. Corbin also stated that he was going to usher in a new era of himself and claimed his place is back in the main even where he belonged. Mr. Stone and Wagner came out to interrupt and after some back-and-forth banter between Stone and Corbin, Corbin demanded that Wagner speak to him instead. Corbin then mocked Wagner for his weak promo skills which led to Wagner’s retort mocking Corbin’s history of failed gimmicks in WWE. Wagner then issued a challenge to Corbin for a match at next week’s NXT Heatwave special and the two engaged in a brawl.

The second new match announced was a Mixed Tag Team match of Judgement Day’s Rhea Ripley & Dominik Mysterio vs. Lyra Valkyria & Dragon Lee.

This match was setup following a backstage promo segment by Ripley and Mysterio. After some insults by Ripley directed towards Valkyria and Lee, Ripley issued a challenge to them for a Mixed Tag Team match at next week’s NXT show. In a follow-up backstage segment, Valkyria and Lee gave their thoughts about what Ripley had said earlier and agreed to team up together and accepted the match challenge.

The third new match announced was a NXT Championship match of Wes Lee vs. Carmelo Hayes (c).

This match was initially setup during backstage segments featuring Lee and Dijak interrupting Hayes during an autograph sessions with each guy claiming to be the next challenger for Hayes’s NXT title. Lee would later defeat Dijak in a #1 Contender’s match on the show after getting some help from Eddy Thorpe interfering at ringside but not actually laying his hands on Dijak to avoid a DQ decision in favor of Dijak.
