- As noted before, this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Calgary, Alberta, Canada featured Jey Uso quitting on the Bloodline, SmackDown, and WWE following him rejecting Jimmy Uso’s reason why he cost him the chance at becoming the new Undisputed WWE Universal Champion and attack on the Bloodline. WWE recently moved Uso’s profile to the Alumni section of their official website to further his “WWE departure” storyline.
- This past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Calgary also featured Rey Mysterio defeating Austin Theory to become the new United States Champion. During Saturday’s WWE SmackDown Lowdown show, Mysterio gave his thoughts about his recent United States title victory. Mysterio stated “Today was a roller coaster ride from the moment I arrived to the moment which is now. I was so angry, and my frustration and my anger took over that when I went out and had that match with Austin, I wasn’t really thinking about the final consequence, which is [being United States Champion]. My team, the LWO, this ain’t my title. This is our title. This is the LWO’s title. Oh my god, this is our unity right here. This is what unites us together. - As noted before, WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi recently denied rumors of him making an appearance at next month’s Payback 2023 event for a rumored special guest referee match between Jimmy and Jey Uso. NinjaxChange Collectable Expo recently updated their advertisement for Rikishi’s appearance at their upcoming convention removing all references to WWE’s Payback 2023 event.
- As noted before, Sonya Deville has been out of action for WWE since the July 26th SmackDown show due to her suffering a torn ACL injury. Deville recently provided an update on Instagram stating that her surgery to repair her ACL earlier this week was successful. In regards to the current status of Deville and Chelsea Green’s WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials are currently considering plans to hold a new Women’s Tag Team tournament to crown new Tag Team Champions.
- As noted before, Paul Heyman stated during WWE’s SummerSlam 2023 post-show media scrum last weekend that the Bloodline storyline was only in the third inning in terms of how far it was away from being completed. In a recent episode of The Kurt Angle Show podcast, host Kurt Angle gave his thoughts on Heyman’s statement about the progression of the Bloodline’s story in WWE being “full of shit.” Angle stated “The storyline is great, I love it, but I think Heyman was full of shit. I think they’re in the eighth inning, and they’re stressed. They’re making shit up now. That’s what I believe. - As noted before, WWE recently announced that their SummerSlam 2023 event on August 5th at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan generated an attendance of 59,194. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the real attendance for the event was 51,477 with the breakdown being around 47,000 paid and the rest as comp tickets.
- WWE’s SummerSlam 2023 event on August 5th reportedly generated around 15,900 pay-per-view buys from cable television PPV providers, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Dave Meltzer reported that this was down compared to last year’s event which generated 18,600 buys and the reason is very likely due to the migration of WWE viewers from cable PPV to Peacock over the past year.
- As noted before, Roman Reigns’ suffered an unknown injury during his match against Jey Uso at WWE’s SummerSlam 2023 event last weekend. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that the current belief is that Reigns had suffered either a back or hip-related injury.
- As noted before, Brock Lesnar is currently on a lengthy break from WWE following his match with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam 2023 last weekend. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials’ current plans are for Lesnar to return during the build up for next year’s Royal Rumble event and work in a program afterwards for next year’s WrestleMania 40 event.
- As noted before, WWE recently revealed the official Board of Directors for the upcoming WWE and UFC merged company called TKO Group Holdings. In regards to ownership shares for this new merged company from WWE’s side, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Vince McMahon will own 16.4% of the company and also 16.4% of the voting power, Linda McMahon will own 0.3%, former WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon will own 1.1%, and Nick Khan, Paul Levesque, Kevin Dunn, Frank Riddick and other high level WWEexecutives will own 1.3% combined of the new company.
- Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the July 31st RAW show was the top ranked show on cable television for that night. The August 1st NXT show reportedly was also the top ranked show on cable television for that night.
- Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Endeavor officials and WWE CEO Nick Khan have been pushing for WWE to make their NXT developmental brand into a viable major third brand for the company. Meltzer reported that the idea is to build up NXT’s value ahead of WWE’s upcoming new television deals in order to get a much higher paying deal for NXT’s next television contract and NXT to become a new money maker brand for the company. Meltzer reported that they also currently have the goal of NXT eventually returning to regular touring outside of Florida for both house show tours and television tapings. In regards to WWE officials current push to have NXT top AEW’s Dynamite shows in ratings, Meltzer reported that WWE officials current goal is for NXT to eventually surpass AEW’s Dynamite in 18-34 key demographic viewership and ratings. This group reportedly is the one WWE officials are focusing the most towards due to the idea of it being the group that will determine if their plans for NXT tours outside of Florida will be successful. Meltzer also reported that WWE officials had held internal talks over how their recent NXT Great American Bash 2023 event in Cedar Park, Texas managed to outdraw AEW’s recent Dynamite and Rampage tapings in the city.
- Pollstar reported that WWE drew a final paid attendance of 15,255 for a live gate of $1,845,401 for their June 30th SmackDown show in London and 15,471 paid for a live gate of $3,323,751 for their July 1st Money in the Bank 2023 event in London, England. - As noted before, Stardom talent KAIRI recently signed an official contract with WWE and is currently expected to return to the company within the near future. Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that Stardom officials are currently under the belief that KAIRI’s return date for WWE would be in November. Those spoken to reportedly stated that KAIRI’s decision to leave Stardom was also influenced by several behind-the-scenes issues within Stardom and Bushiroad but not directly related to her. These issues reportedly were stated to may or may not happen for a long time but it was enough of a concern for KAIRI to decide to leave Stardom and return back to WWE. KAIRI reportedly also confirmed that her loss to Mercedes Mone earlier this year for the IWGP Women’s Championship did play a factor in her decision to leave.
- As noted before, Kevin Owens has been out of action for WWE since this past July due to a rib injury. In regards to the current status of the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials currently do not have any plans for Owens and Sami Zayn to relinquish their tag team titles despite Owens’ injury. This decision reportedly has not changed despite Zayn also recently suffering a legit elbow-related injury.

- Following Saturday’s AEW Collision show in Greensboro, North Carolina, CM Punk and FTR gave a post-show speech to the live crowd. During his portion of the speech, Punk verbally bashed Hangman Adam Page calling him a “peg warmer” unlike him who moves merchandise sales, pops television ratings, and sells toys. Punk stated “Carolina is Hangman country [referencing a sign in the crowd]. Earlier today, I went to a local supermarket and I figured out why the call him Hangman. It’s because the pegs in the toy aisle are full of Hangman action figures because nobody wants to buy them. He’s a peg warmer, unlike me, who moves merchandise, pops ratings, sells toys. You got everybody in AEW saying, ‘I’m the heart, I’m the soul, I’m the spirit.’ Well, that’s objective [subjective], what’s a fact is the people who say that certainly aren’t the chin of AEW because the lights go out faster than…what? - In regards to CM Punk’s post-show promo towards Hangman Adam Page, the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Punk’s speech verbally trashing Page was not done for a storyline reason nor was part of any plans by AEW for both Collision or anything else. Page reportedly was in attendance backstage at Saturday’s Collision show to pre-tape an interview segment for this Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Nashville, Tennessee. Meltzer reported that while Punk and The Young Bucks have agreements in place that do not allow them to say anything negative publicly towards each other, Punk does not have a similar agreement in place with Page which is why he was able to do what he did last night.
- Hikaru Shida recently reflected on Twitter about her becoming more comfortable in English-language interviews and promos in AEW than she used to be. Shida stated “I know I still need to work hard with my English but I can more relax now during English interviews because I learned not to need to be perfect. I’d love to challenge everything what I couldn’t before!! I hope you all will enjoy it!“
- Dax Harwood reflected on Twitter about Sunday being the 19th anniversary of the debut of his wrestling career. Harwood stated “19 years ago, today, I wrestled my very first match. I love professional wrestling. Like LOVE it. To the point of hate, doubt, frustration, insecurity, etc. This is sappy, but, if a guy who’s 5’10”, bald, chubby, crazy ass accent can make it, so can y’all. 🥃 Top Guys out.“
- Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that former Ring of Honor talent and current AEW commentator Nigel McGuinness is currently training for a potential in-ring return. It was reported that while McGuinness has yet to be medically cleared for an in-ring return, he has been taking measures that have indicated that he is considering doing so in the future. It was reported that McGuinness’ name had been brought up in talks by AEW officials in recent months as a possible competitor for their upcoming All In event. It was also reported that they have yet to confirm if AEW has actual plans in place for him to wrestle at the event.
- Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that one very important story to follow regarding AEW’s next television contract involves Warner Bros Discovery’s current negotiations with the NBA for a new television deal. Meltzer reported that the NBA is currently asking for a substantial increase for their next TV deal which could negative impact AEW’s chances at getting a much higher paying deal for their own next TV contract. Meltzer reported that if WBD ends up agreeing to the amount the NBA wants, then that would leave WBD with a much high guaranteed costs on their books and likely lead to less money being available for AEW’s next TV deal from them. If WBD were to reject NBA’s offer and NBA leaves WBD, then that would free up a lot more money available for AEW but at the cost of TNT’s value in regards to carriage fees revenues from cable providers dropping greatly. This would be a double edge sword since it would mean WBD would likely be taking less money in for TNT and less money available from WBD for AEW in the long run.

- Dustin Rhodes recently stated on Twitter that he was on a vacation with his wife in Maui, Hawaii during the same time as the devastating wildfires this past week in the area. Rhodes stated that the fire that destroyed Lahaina was only two miles away from where he was staying and had to evacuate to the other side of the island. Rhodes also stated that they were without power or food for several days. Rhodes stated “Prayers for everyone in Maui including my wife and I. We were without power or food since early Tuesday morning. A brush fire(one of many), destroyed Lahaina just 2 miles from where we were staying. We evacuated to other side of Island and were lucky to find accommodations. Been a helluva day. #MauiFires“
- As noted before, Bryan Danielson has been out of action for AEW since this past June due to a fractured forearm injury. Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that prior to his injury, AEW officials had been working on plans for Danielson to compete in a singles match against Kenny Omega at their upcoming All In event at Wembley Stadium in London, England. AEW officials reportedly also scrapped all of their plans for both PAC and Jamie Hayter for their All In event following both of them suffering injuries and would not be able to return in time for the event.
- This past Friday’s AEW Rampage show featured a video promo segment involving Eddie Kingston. During his promo, Kingston gave his thoughts about his current time in Japan for New Japan Pro Wrestling’s G1 Climax 2023 tournament and stated that he wanted to defend his NJPW Strong Openweight Championship in AEW.
- Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW officials were happy over Rob Van Dam’s performance in his FTW Championship match against Jack Perry at this past Wednesday’s Dynamite show.

- Sunday’s G1 Climax 2023 Finals event for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Tokyo, Japan featured Tetsuya Naito defeating Kazuchika Okada to be crowned the winner of this year’s G1 Climax tournament. This is the third time in Naito’s career that he has won a G1 Climax tournament with the prior times being in 2013 and 2017.
- Following Sunday’s NJPW G1 Climax 2023 Finals event, SANADA revealed on Instagram that he has been dealing with a torn biceps tendon injury that he had suffered during this year’s tournament.
- During TMDK’s post-match press conference at Sunday’s NJPW G1 Climax 2023 Finals event, Kosei Fujita confirmed that he has graduated from NJPW’s Young Lions Dojo system. Fujita stated “I don’t know how long I will be abroad as TMDK, but I would like to come back with my colors, the strength that is unique to me, enhanced even more and my colors. And that’s the end of (my time as a) Young Lion today.“
- Sunday’s NJPW G1 Climax 2023 Finals event also featured Pro Wrestling NOAH’s Kaito Kiyomiya offering an invitation to NJPW’s Ryohei Oiwa to work in NOAH for an excursion period, which Oiwa accepted.
- NJPW recently announced that real1, former Enzo Amore in WWE, will be making an appearance for the company at their All Star Junior Festival USA 2023 event on August 19th in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania.
- NJPW reportedly generated a paid attendance of 3,150 for their Aug. 5th G1 Climax 2023 event in Osaka, 3,275 for their Aug. 6th G1 Climax 2023 event in Osaka, 2,360 for their Aug. 8th G1 Climax 2023 event in Yokohama, 2,001 for their Aug. 9th G1 Climax 2023 event in Hamamatsu, and 2,790 for their Aug. 10th in Funabashi, Japan, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
- Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that NJPW’s Yuji Nagata recently revealed the origin of EVIL’s spot during his matches where he slams his opponent into the guard rail where the timekeeper is located to cause him and his table to fall over. Nagata stated that this spot was inspired by an incident during the Jay White vs. Juice Robinson match at the G1 Special event in 2018 where White gave an Irish Whip to Robinson into the guard rail where Jim Ross and Josh Barnett were located causing Ross to suffer a legit fall. Nagata stated that NJPW timekeeper Makoto Abe then came up with the idea to have that spot done for EVIL’s matches as a way to generate added crowd heat to EVIL. Nagata also stated that NJPW officials recently added more space in between Abe’s table and the front row crowd railing to prevent Abe from cashing into the crowd.
- Sunday’s Stardom X Stardom 2023 Osaka Summer Team event for Stardom in Osaka, Japan featured Giulia defeating Yuu to retain her NJPW Strong Women’s Championship. Following her match, a video aired on the big screen featuring Deonna Purrazzo and Gisele Shaw both challenging Giulia for her NJPW Strong Women’s title at Impact Wrestling and NJPW’s co-promoted Impact x NJPW Multiverse United 2 event on August 20th in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. During her post-match press conference, Giulia stated that she will be traveling to the United States for Multiverse United 2 but did not officially confirm the match.
- Stardom reportedly generated a paid attendance of 502 for their Aug. 5th 5STAR Grand Prix 2023 event in Komatsu, 728 for their Aug. 6th 5STAR Grand Prix 2023 event in Hamamatsu, 403 for their Aug. 8th 5STAR Grand Prix 2023 event in Kyoto, and 410 for their Aug. 10th 5STAR Grand Prix 2023 event in Okayama, Japan, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
- Saturday’s Triplemania XXXI: Mexico City event for Lucha Libra AAA in Mexico City, Mexico featured QT Marshall defeating Pentagon Jr., Dralistico, and Texano Jr. to be crowned the new AAA Latin American Champion. The event also featured Flammer defeating Taya Valkyrie to be crowned the new AAA Reina de Reinas Champion.
- Satuday’s AAA Triplemania XXXI: Mexico City event also featured Sam Adonis losing a Hair vs. Mask match against Psycho Clown, RUSH, and L.A. Park. As a result of the match stipulation, Adonis had his hair shaved off after the match.
- Saturday’s AAA Triplemania XXI: Mexico City event also featured Psycho Clown suffering a potential injury and being taken out on a stretcher following the end of the Hair vs. Mask match. Psycho Clown provided an update earlier today stating that he lost feeling in his legs due to his rough landing from his finishing move to Sam Adonis. Psycho Clown stated “To all my Psycholocos:Yesterday I obtained another cabellera, which I wouldn’t have been able to achieve without you all.During my match at TripleMania 31 (CDMX), I suffered a hard hit in my neck, lower back, and even on my feet. Because of this, I was not able to move my left & right legs because they were numb.I will be in observation & in constant communication with my Doctor. Because of my commitment to the blessed Professional Wrestling & it’s fans, I will be fulfilling my already scheduled dates.I thank you all & remember, I am a Psycho Loco.“
- Saturday’s AAA Triplemania XXI: Mexico City event also featured El Hijo del Vikingo suffering a medical incident backstage. Following his successful defense of his AAA Mega Championship at the event, Vikingo had fainted backstage and was given immediate medical treatment. Vikingo was then taken away on a stretcher for additional medical assistance.
- Saturday’s AAA Triplemania XXI: Mexico City event also featured the official announcement of Brian Cage being pulled off the show due to him recently suffering an injury. Cage provided an update earlier today confirming that he has been hospitalized over a medical issue that was not disclosed by him. Cage stated “I’m currently in the ER right now with inconsiderate patients playing their Instagram videos in the background on full volume. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like I’ll be making my flight or my scheduled match up for Triplemania this Saturday. - Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AAA officials recently informed their talent that everything in the company will change for the better once they get their upcoming new investors onboard. AAA officials reportedly also told their talent that they would be signing them to better paying contracts and improving the quality of their production for pay-per-view events for their United States market.
- Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling recently announced that they will be holding a co-promoted event with Prestige Wrestling called Combat Princess USA on December 14th in Los Angeles, California.
