Update on AEW Dynamite Viewership for August 9, 2023
As noted before, the August 9th episode of AEW Dynamite drew 846,000 viewers, a 0.29 key demographic rating, and a #1 key demographic ranking on TBS.
This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter provided more viewership ratings details that was not available in last week’s issue.
Dave Meltzer reported that AEW’s Dynamite show had drawn a 0.22 18-34 key demographic rating. Meltzer reported that while WWE officials have been pushing for their NXT shows to eventually top Dynamite in the 18-34 viewership group for the first time ever, this was not the case with last week’s NXT show as it only drew a 0.18 in the 18-34. Meltzer reported that last week’s NXT show did not beat AEW’s show in any of the four key demographic viewership groups.
AEW’s Males 18-34 reportedly was 95,000 viewers (up 21.8% compared to the prior week), Females 18-34 had 56,000 viewers (down 9.7%), Males 35-49 had 173,000 viewers (down 7.0%), and Females 35-49 had 59,000 viewers (down 26.3%). AEW drew 874,000 viewers and a 0.32 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gain from their female key demographic viewership group, which was up 29.6% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the small gain from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 4.6% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the very weak lead-in programing viewership and ratings from Big Bang Theory and the decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 13.7% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that Big Bang Theory’s key demographic rating of 0.12 was the lowest ever since AEW Dynamite moved to TBS.
