AEW: Tony Khan on Potential of Bryan Danielson Booking AEW Show, The Boys & Anthony Ogogo Sign New Deals, All In News

Tony Khan Comments on Bryan Danielson Being Person He’d Trust to Put Together AEW Show

The Hollywood Reporter held a recent interview with AEW CEO Tony Khan. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts on Bryan Danielson being the person he would trust the most to book an AEW show if he were unable to do so for whatever reason.

“He hasn’t been around as much lately, because he’s been recovering from an injury. But if I got hit by a bus, or if I was ever incapacitated for some reason, the person I told my father that he should turn to is Bryan Danielson.”

Khan also gave his thoughts on how far he plans ahead with his booking in AEW.

“I have long-range ideas and plans for things we can do. I do everything in pencil. On the AEW All Access show on TBS, I gave a look at a matrix that I built with all the different ideas. There are rows and columns for the different stories and where they can intersect and the different dates and how everything progresses. But this changes so often. We’ve had major changes this summer. We lost [former ROH and WWE star] Bryan Danielson with a broken arm, and [former WWE and Dragongate star] Pac has been out with internal injuries. Jamie Hayter has been out injured. These are three great wrestlers. In the case of Pac and Jamie Hayter, they are great former champions and also British stars I really was hoping would be involved in the Wembley Stadium show. But we have such a deep roster. It’s like when a sports team has an injury and switches people around and brings people in. That’s what we do.”

The Boys Signed New Contracts with AEW/ROH, Anthony Ogogo Signed New Contract with AEW

Ring of Honor talents The Boys (Brandon & Brent Tate) announced on Twitter that they recently signed new contracts with AEW and ROH to stay in those companies for the foreseeable future.

Besides The Boys, Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that Antony Ogogo had signed a new contract with AEW either at the end of 2022 or start of 2023. It was reported that Ogogo’s new contract is for two-years in length.

It was also reported that the reason for Ogogo’s current lengthy absence from AEW is not due to any injury or health-related reasons and instead simple due to AEW officials did not have any creative plans for him. Ogogo is currently in London doing promotional work this week for AEW but it is not known when he will be making his return to AEW programming.

AEW All In News & Notes

The Mat Men Pro Wrestling’s Andrew Zarian reported that his sources stated that AEW generated around 90,000 advance pay-per-view buys in the United States for this Sunday’s All In event. Zarian reported that this is considered to be a very strong number for advance buys.

Fightful Select reported that their sources confirmed a report from PWMania that stated that AEW officials currently do not have any plans for a potential Jeff Jarrett vs. Grado match to take place at their All In event.

AEW and events distributor Joe Hand Promotions recently announced that they are partnering again for the airing of AEW’s All In event on Sunday, August 27th at select bars and restaurants across the United States.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that the reason why All In will not be airing live in theaters in the U.S. is currently believed to be due to the events early start time. Johnson reported that the event airing in the early afternoon made it logistically harder for it to be aired live in theaters in the U.S. Johnson also reported that most special events that are distributed to theaters are typically held in the evening. Johnson also reported another major issue was this Sunday being National Cinema Day which limited the number of potential theaters that would have been available for the event.

Despite his current broken arm injury, Bryan Danielson reportedly will be traveling to London for AEW’s upcoming All In event this weekend, according to PWInsider.

Will Ospreay recently reflected on Twitter about his upcoming match against Chris Jericho at AEW’s All In event and how he would have been at the original All In event if it was not for a simple mistake by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks. Ospreay statedTrue story. Cody asked months after the first one “why wasn’t you on All In”. My reply was “you didn’t ask”. Essentially they forgot to message me to be part of their history. Took long enough but finally part of All In at Wembley Stadium…And I’m not All Elite…I’m Above It.

In a recent interview with the Superstar Crossover podcast, Adam Cole revealed that he had special gear made for him to wear at AEW’s All In event. Cole stated “All I can say is I do have a very special set of gear made specifically for this show. This is a set of gear, actually, I’ve wanted to do for a very long time. Some diehard fans of mine may know what I’m implying. Some people, again, probably don’t know. All I’ll say is I do have some very special gear planned for Wembley Stadium. I’m very excited to wear it.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)

In a recent episode of the Grillin JR podcast, co-host Jim Ross gave his thoughts about him looking forward to AEW’s All In event and it being a “once-in-a-lifetime” show for him. Ross stated “Yeah, it’s pretty impressive when you stop to think about it. For me, next year will be 50 years in the wrestling business. I don’t regret a minute of it any of it, quite frankly. Wouldn’t change a damn thing. So yeah, it’s gonna be very memorable. I say this, and I don’t say it in a morbid way, but we all gotta be realistic about our mortality. I don’t know that I’ll ever have the opportunity to be a part of an event like this again. You can’t run an event like that every year, I don’t think. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime deal. They struck when the iron was hot. When you don’t have a card, it tells you what sold the event. What sold the event was the brand AEW. It’s just a no-brainer. I’m looking forward to it immensely. Have no idea what match I’m gonna call, or matches. Doesn’t matter to me. Whatever Tony Khan wants, that’s what I’ll do. It’s easy. Coach sends a play in, you’re a player. Run the damn play. Simple as that.” (Transcript h/t: Fightful.com)
