RVD Makes Surprise AEW Debut, FTW Title Match Announced for Next Week’s Show

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Tampa, Florida featured AEW celebrating the 200th episode in Dynamite series history.

Tonight’s Dynamite show also featured ECW legend Ron Van Dam making a surprise appearance and official AEW debut.

In an in-ring interview segment on the show, Jack Perry called out Jerry Lynn so that he could get his ass kicked. This led to Lynn coming out and stating that while he does not run the show, no doctor would clear him to get in the ring for a fight. Lynn stated that he had called a good friend of his from ECW who still wrestles, which led to loud “RVD” chants by the crowd. RVD then made his surprise appearance coming out to his old ECW theme of “Walk” by Pantera. RVD and Perry had a brief staredown in the ring before Perry walked away. While RVD and Lynn were celebrating in the ring, Perry got back in the ring and tried to ambush attack RVD with a chair only for RVD to almost hit a Van Daminator in return that Perry managed to dodge. Perry then bailed through the crowd but not before grabbing a little girl and hiding behind her first.

In a follow-up backstage segment, RVD challenged Perry to a match for his FTW Championship at next week’s Dynamite show in Columbus, Ohio. RVD stated that when he wins, he will retire the belt since he claimed it doesn’t get any bigger than RVD holding it.

Adam Cole vs. MJF for AEW World Title Match Announced for AEW All In

Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Tampa also featured the first official match announced for AEW’s All In event, which takes place on August 27th at Wembley Stadium in London, England.

This match was announced to be an AEW World Championship match of Adam Cole vs. MJF (c).

This match was setup following an in-ring promo segment between MJF and Cole. MJF came out and after some talk about him still being a scumbag of a person but him wanting to be the fans favorite scumbag as his thanks to the fans for showing that they cared for him. This led to a “He’s Our Scumbag” chants from the crowd in support. MJF then stated that one person taught him that he could trust, be vulnerable, and deserves a friend. This was revealed to be Cole who came out and MJF stated was his best friend. After some talks by Cole and MJF, MJF stated that he had promised an AEW World title shot to Cole and revealed that it would be taking place at AEW’s upcoming All In event later this month. MJF then handed Cole a match contract and Cole signed it without looking and the two hugged in the ring.

Hikaru Shida Wins AEW Women’s Title

Wednesday’s Dynamite show in Tampa also featured Hikaru Shida defeating Toni Storm to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion in the show’s main event.

The finish to this match involved Saraya tossing a kendo stick into the ring leading to a tug-o-war between Shida and Storm right in front of the referee. After Shida managed to yank away the kendo stick, Storm and The Outcasts dared Shida to hit Storm since it would mean that Storm gets to retain her title via disqualification. Instead, Shida struck Ruby Soho and Saraya on the apron and threw it away in the ring. While the referee was distracted putting away the kendo stick, Storm attacked Shida with a spray paint can and hit a Storm Zero for a near fall. Storm tried another Storm Zero only for Shida to counter it with a roll-up for the pinfall victory to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion.

With her victory, Shida became a two-time AEW Women’s World Champion and her first title reign outside of the pandemic era.
