Monday’s WWE RAW show in Tampa, Florida featured three new matches officially announced for the card of SummerSlam 2023, which takes place on August 5th at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.
The first new match announced is a singles match of Ricochet vs. Logan Paul.
This match was setup during an in-ring promo segment by Ricochet. During his promo, Ricochet verbally bashed Paul saying how nobody backstage though Paul belonged in the company. Ricochet also praised Paul’s in-ring ability and wrestling training but then called him a prick. Ricochet stated that “we” (wrestlers) dedicate their lives to this business and spend time away from their families and this was something that Paul couldn’t understand. Ricochet then issued a challenge to Paul for a match at SummerSlam. Paul then appeared out of nowhere and attacked Ricochet. Paul took out his camera and recorded a selfie video while accepting Ricochet’s challenge and mocked the fans in attendance. This led to Ricochet hitting a superkick to Paul and followed it with a standing Shooting Star Press and Paul walked away afterwards.
The second new match announced is an Intercontinental Championship match of Drew McIntyre vs. Gunther (c).
This match was setup during an in-ring promo segment between McIntyre and Imperium. McIntyre challenged Gunther for a match for his Intercontinental title which Gunther responded if he wanted it to happen tonight or not. McIntyre responded stating that he didn’t care which led to Gunther not wanting to do it tonight in front of a bunch of degenerates as a dig to the Tampa crowd. Gunther then stated that this match would take place at next month’s SummerSlam 2023 event instead.
The third new match announced is a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match of Finn Balor vs. Seth Rollins (c).
This match was made official in a contract signing segment that took place during the main event of Monday’s show. After some banter, Rollins and Balor signed the match contract but Balor had a smile on his face since it gave him the time to spring his trap on Rollins as the rest of Judgement Day made their way to the ring. This led to a big brawl with Sami Zayn coming out trying to save Rollins to no avail and ended with Judgement Day standing tall as the show closed.
