WWE NXT Notes: Dominik Mysterio Wins N.A. Title, Three New Matches Added to NXT Great American Bash 2023

Dominik Mysterio Wins NXT North American Title at Tuesday’s NXT Show

Tuesday’s NXT show featured Dominik Mysterio defeating Wes Lee to be crowned the new NXT North American Champion

The finish to this match involved Lee hitting a Tornado DDT to Mysterio causing Mysterio to roll out of the ring. Before Lee was able to perform a dive to the outside, Mysterio grabbed the North American title belt and tried to walk away from ringside. Before Mysterio was able to get towards the entrance side, Lee dove to the outside hitting Mysterio to put an end to his attempt to leave. Lee then tossed Mysterio back into the ring and hit a twisting corkscrew senton only for Judgement Day’s Finn Balor and Damian Priest to run in. While Balor distracted the ref, Priest tried to hit Lee with the North American title only for Lee to attack Priest instead. Lee then went to the top rope for a high flying move only for Rhea Ripley to leap up onto the apron and strike Lee in the back with her WWE Women’s World title. Mysterio then covered Lee for the pinfall victory to become the new NXT North American Champion.

As a result of his championship victory, Mysterio will now be defending his title against Mustafa Ali at NXT’s upcoming Great American Bash 2023 event.

Three New Matches Added to Card of NXT Great American Bash 2023

Tuesday’s NXT show also featured three new matches officially announced for the card of WWE’s NXT Great American Bash 2023 event on July 30th in Cedar Park, Texas.

The first new match announced is a NXT Tag Team Championship match of Tony D’Angelo & Stacks vs. Gallus (Wolfgang & Mark Coffey) (c).

This match was setup on last week’s show where Stacks defeated Joe Coffey to both drop the charges against D’Angelo and free him from prison and also earn a NXT Tag titles shot against Gallus.

During tonight’s show, Stacks held a Tony D’Angelo NXT Homecoming ceremony featuring members of the D’Angelo Family in the ring. D’Angelo made his way to the ring and gave a speech thanking Stacks and had a video played revealing the swerve they pulled on Gallus to get a NXT Tag Team title shot at NXT Great American Bash 2023. This led to Gallus coming out and bashing D’Angelo for what they did. After some banter, Mark Coffey threatened that D’Angelo and Stacks won’t make it to Great American Bash 2023 which led to Joe pulling out a mini bat threatening to attack D’Angelo. This led to the rest of the D’Angelo Family pulling out crowbars in response and a brawl breaking out with Gallus getting beaten up and D’Angelo and Stacks standing tall in the end.

The second new match announced is a NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Submission match of Thea Hail vs. Tiffany Stratton (c).

This match was setup following Hail’s quick win over Elektra Lopez. Hail and Duke Hudson gave a post-match promo involving Hail demanding a rematch for the NXT Women’s title and called out Stratton to accept her request. This led to Stratton coming out and accepting the challenge boasting that she will just beat Hail again. Hail then stated that it would not be a regular match but instead a submission match which Stratton first refused to accept. This led to Hail leaping onto Stratton and applying an armbar and refused to let go until Stratton accepted, which she did after being in a lot of pain.

The third new match announced is a singles match of Blair Davenport vs. Roxanne Perez.

This match was setup following a backstage split-screen sitdown promo segment involving Perez and Davenport airing their grievances about each other. Perez stated that Blair does not know what is coming to her for their match at Great American Bash 2023. Blair responded threatening Perez and stated that Austin is a short drive from Laredo so that she can go home after she loses and don’t come back to Orlando. This led to Perez getting upset and storming off the set.
