AEW Dynamite Notes: Two Blind Eliminator Tag Tournament Matches, Ruby Soho Advances in Women’s Owen Hart Cup

Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin and MJF & Adam Cole Advances in Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada featured two Blind Eliminator Tag Team Tournament Quarterfinals matches.

The first match of the tournament on the show featured Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin defeating Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee.

The finish to this match involved Strickland setting up Allin for a superplex only for Lee to turn it into a Tower of Doom by chucking Swerve off the top rope. Following some action on the outside, Lee walked up the steel steps that had Allin trapped underneath it while having Cassidy wrapped around his neck applying a sleeper hold. Lee blocked Cassidy’s DDT and Slumdog Millionaire several times before Cassidy was able to finally hit the move leading to Allin hitting a Code Red right after for a near fall. Allin’s near fall was broken up by Strickland who hit a 450 Splash onto Allin. Lee and Strickland both tried to hit big moves on Cassidy and Allin only to get shoved into each other causing Lee to fall out of the ring. Cassidy then hit a top rope DDT to Strickland and a suicide dive to the outside taking out Lee. This allowed Allin to catch Strickland in a Last Supper for the pinfall victory and advance to the next round in the Blind Eliminator Tag Team tournament.

The second match of the tournament on the show featured MJF & Adam Cole defeating “Daddy Magic” Matt Menard & The Butcher.

The finish to this match involved MJF hitting a low blow to escape a double team abdominal stretch by Menard and Butcher. This led to MJF giving the hot tag to Cole who leveled Menard with a pump kick and Ushigoroshi to Menard. As Cole was hitting Butcher and Menard with a pair of superkicks, MJF yelled out from the apron to be tagged in so that they could hit their brand new double clothesline finisher. Cole ignored MJF’s plea and instead hit The Boom on Menard for the pinfall victory to advance to the next round of the Blind Eliminator Tag Team tournament.

In regards to other teams announced for the tournament, these teams were officially revealed during the show to be Matt Hardy & Jeff Jarrett, Daniel Garcia & Sammy Guevara, Big Bill & Brian Cage, and Trent Beretta & Matt Sydal. Cassidy & Allin will face off against the winner of Hardy & Jarrett vs. Garcia & Guevara match while MJF & Cole will face off against the winner of Bill & Cage vs. Beretta & Sydal in the next round.

Ruby Soho Advances in Women’s Owen Hart Cup Tournament

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Edmonton also featured a 2023 Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament match of Dr. Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho.

The finish to this match involved Baker applying a Lock Jaw to Soho only for Soho to wiggle her way to the ropes so that The Outcasts could grab her out of the ring to break the hold. Baker then went out of the ring and hit Toni Storm and Saraya with a pair of superkicks and tried to get back into the ring only to get her leg grabbed by Storm. Baker then hit a double foot stomp with Storm’s head in between her feet smacking her head off the apron. This led to Baker attempting a roll-up to Soho only for Soho to counter with her own roll-up and held onto to Storm and Saraya for extra leverage while the ref was not looking for the pinfall victory to advance to the Semifinal Round of this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament.

Soho will face off against Skye Blue in the Semifinals Round of this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Cup tournament.
