More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 31st
The May 31st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership but suffered a small decline in key demographic ratings.
AEW drew 923,000 viewers and a 0.29 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was not known at the time but the Wrestling Observer reported that it was later discovered to have been at 2nd place.
Detailed viewership and key demographic breakdowns were not available in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The main reason was due to ratings delay issues from Nielsen affecting this week’s ratings releases and charts.
Dave Meltzer reported that the reason for AEW’s mixed results this week was due to stiff competition from Vanderpump Rules affecting their female key demographic viewership the most, which was down 28.6% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their younger male key demographic viewership group, which was down 18.1% compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the gains from their older male key demographic viewership group, which was up 5.6% compared to last week’s show, and likely from their Over 50 viewership group as well but its percentage increase is currently not known.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 374,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 95,000 viewers (down 18.1%), Females 18-34 had 38,000 viewers (down 36.7%), Males 35-49 had 189,000 viewers (up 5.6%), and Females 35-49 had 52,000 viewers (down 21.2%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 284,000 male viewers (down 3.7%) and 90,000 female viewers (down 28.6%) for a split of 75.9% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, one of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,040,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 839,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.
