As noted before, Drew McIntyre’s contract with WWE is currently expected to expire by early 2024. McIntyre has also be out of action for WWE since this past April’s WrestleMania 39 event due to an unknown health issue.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that there has been a recent push within WWE’s creative to get McIntyre back into the mix. WWE officials reportedly currently want McIntyre to return by their Money in the Bank 2023 event on July 1st in London, England.
Johnson reported that there has been creative pitches made for McIntyre’s potential return as of last week.
In regards to McIntyre’s contract situation, Johnson reported that his sources did not provide any new updates regarding if McIntyre had signed a new deal with WWE. Johnson reported that recent talks between McIntyre and WWE officials had revolved around creative issues over how McIntyre would be used from a storyline perspective and specifically in terms of how meaningful that storyline would be for his return.
Johnson reported that the current belief is that McIntyre does not want to float around aimlessly in the company due to he had already proven how important of a star he can be to the company. Johnson also reported that McIntyre is currently not expected to return until him and WWE officials can come to an agreement on how he will be used creatively going forward in the company.
