More on Blackjack Battle Royale Match at AEW Double or Nothing 2023
AEW’s Double or Nothing 2023 event last Sunday in Las Vegas, Nevada featured Orange Cassidy retaining his AEW International Championship in a 21-Man Blackjack Battle Royale match.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that AEW CEO Tony Khan was integral in helping laying out and putting things together for the match. It was reported that Khan had helped put together or has had a big hand in almost every battle royale match that AEW does. Those spoken to reportedly stated that Khan has developed a knack for how these type of matches work.
It was also reported that AEW officials had made their official decision for the finish to the match the night before their Double or Nothing 2023 event. Swerve Strickland and Orange Cassidy reportedly had some creative input on how things went down for the match’s finish.
Several talent spoken to who participated in the match reportedly were very happy with how the match ended up.
It was reported that when the match was first announcement, several talents did not know that they would be involved in the match. AEW officials reportedly held some discussions beforehand over holding a standard Casino Battle Royale match before deciding upon doing a Blackjack Battle Royale match instead.
AEW All In Ticket Sales & All-Time Wrestling Records Updates
As noted before, AEW has sold around 65,000 tickets for their upcoming AEW All In branded event this August at Wembley Stadium in London, England.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW’s ticket sales for their upcoming All In event is currently around 65,360 as of this past Thursday.
In regards to all-time wrestling ticket sales records and milestones, Meltzer reported that AEW’s current paid ticket sales for All In has surpassed all but a handful of wrestling events in wrestling history. Meltzer speculated that the amount of tickets currently distributed likely is close to around 70,000. Meltzer also reported that AEW’s current ticket sales is the largest for a wrestling event since WWE’s WrestleMania 32 event in 2016, which drew 79,800 paid tickets and is the current all-time paid record for a wrestling event.
Meltzer speculated that AEW’s All In likely will end up no lower than fifth all-time for ticket sales with fifth place currently being WWE’s WrestleMania 29 event in 2013, which drew 68,900 paid tickets. Meltzer reported that every event in the Top 4 are over 75,000 each for paid tickets.
In regards to live gate gross revenue, Meltzer reported that AEW’s current live gate revenue for All In is already the largest grossing ever for a non-WrestleMania event in wrestling history.
