AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Forbidden Door I event last year was notable for lacking several of AEW’s notable stars due to non-injury related issues involving NJPW’s current partnership with Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. These issues revolved around those talent for AEW also working for Lucha Libre AAA and CMLL’s current rules forbidding rival AAA talent on NJPW-based shows.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that next month’s Forbidden Door II event is also currently expected to not have certain talent be allowed to work at the show due to NJPW’s partnership with CMLL. Meltzer reported that those who would be affected include Andrade El Idolo, Bandido, El Hijo del Vikingo, RUSH, Komander, Penta El Zero Miedo, Rey Fenix, and Dralistico due to all of them also work for AAA.
Meltzer reported that Kenny Omega, FTR, and Sammy Guevara’s status for AEW and NJPW’s upcoming event is currently not expected to be affected due to CMLL’s restrictions mainly applies towards Mexican wrestlers and not everyone who works for AAA.
