More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 24th
The May 24th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a small increase in overall viewership, key demographic ratings, and key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 846,000 viewers and a 0.32 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 4th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the large gains from their younger key demographic viewership and older key demographic viewership groups, which were up 18.1% and 12.3% respectively compared to last week’s show. This reportedly offset the stiff competition from sports and Vanderpump Rules that night and the small decline from their Over 50 demographic viewership group, which was down 5.7% compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that AEW’s show managed to beat Vanderpump Rules’ replay show in head-to-head at 0.34 to 0.33 in key demographic ratings but because the second half of Dynamite drew a 0.31, this was the reason why the overall rating was a 0.32 and causing AEW’s show to be ranked behind Vanderpump Rules’ replay show.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 NHL Playoffs Game 4 of Carolina Hurricanes vs. Florida Panthers drew 1,860,000 viewers on TNT, the MLB simulcast games of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Atlanta and New York Mets vs. Chicago Cubs drew 222,000 viewers on MLB Network, Vanderpump Rules drew 2,036,000 viewers on Bravo, Dr. Pimple Popper drew 1,135,000 viewers on TLC, Expedition Unknown drew 837,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and House Hunters drew 661,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 422,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 116,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 60,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 179,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 66,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 295,000 male viewers (up 14.3%) and 126,000 female viewers (up 14.5%) for a split of 69.9% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 923,000 viewers for their second quarter while their quarter low was at 718,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.
