As noted before, AEW and Warner Bros Discovery are currently working on plans to launch a new third weekly AEW wrestling television show as early as this June. AEW is also currently planning for their upcoming new third weekly television show to be called AEW Collision and for it to feature a “soft” roster split related to Punk’s upcoming return to the company.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that AEW officials current plans for a “soft” roster split will be less of a hard split as previously reported and assumed based on those with knowledge of the updated plans.
Meltzer reported that this roster split will not include AEW’s Women’s division due to AEW officials currently feel that they do not have enough star power in the division to do a hard split for Dynamite and Collision.
In regards to CM Punk’s status, Meltzer reported that while Punk is currently planned to be the top star of Collision for most weeks, he will still be making appearances on Dynamite whenever needed for storyline and other reasons. Those who will be primarily working on the Dynamite brand who still have unresolved issues with Punk would work on Collision on the week Punk makes an appearance on Dynamite. Meltzer reported that AEW officials are still trying to get people to resolve their issues with Punk but this has not happened yet nor has there been any notable progress towards this in recent weeks.
Meltzer also reported that AEW’s plans for a roster split are still being figured out and nothing has been set in stone yet but this is likely how they will be handling their rosters following the debut of their upcoming new Collision show.
