More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for April 19th
The April 19th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 830,000 viewers and a 0.28 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 7th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to stiff sports competition from the NBA and NHL Playoffs and the show airing live on the West Coast instead of its usual three hour delay. Meltzer reported that AEW typically suffers a loss of around 7% to 10% in viewership whenever they air a show live on the West Coast due to it airing at an inconvenient 5PM PST starting time. Meltzer also reported that this week’s show only suffering an overall drop of 4.2% meant that it had held up very well despite this issue.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of Los Angeles Lakers vs. Memphis Grizzles drew 3,804,000 viewers, the 2023 NBA Playoffs Game 2 of Miami Heat vs. Milwaukee Bucks drew 376,000 viewers on NBA TV, the 2023 NHL Playoffs Game 2 of Florida Panthers vs. Boston Bruins drew 909,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2023 NHL Playoffs Game 2 of New York Islanders vs. Carolina Hurricanes drew 649,000 viewers on ESPN2, the MLB simulcast games of Los Angeles Angels vs. New York Yankees and Minnesota vs. Boston drew 259,000 viewers on MLB Network, Vanderpump Rules drew 1,169,000 viewers on Bravo, Dr. Pimple Popper drew 1,217,000 viewers on TLC, and Moonshiners drew 543,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 362,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 92,000 viewers, Females 18-34 had 57,000 viewers, Males 35-49 had 144,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 had 69,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 236,000 male viewers (down 9.2%) and 126,000 female viewers (up 20%) for a split of 65.2% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 963,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 761,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 10.8% in overall viewership and down 24.7% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 27.3% compared to the same week last year.

- 3Q – 869,000 overall viewers and 385,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Baker & Hayter vs. The Outcasts tag team match, Wardlow & Arn Anderson backstage interview segment, and The Elite & Blackpool Combat Club promo and brawl with Konosuke Takeshia segment)
- 4Q – 846,000 overall viewers and 369,000 key demo viewers (TNT Championship match of Wardlow vs. Powerhouse Hobbs (c) and the Guevara & MJF backstage segment)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for April 14th
The April 14th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a small increase key demographic rankings but also suffered a slight decline in key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable at airing at a slightly earlier start time due to NBA Playoffs Play-In Tournament coverage on TNT.
AEW drew 649,000 viewers and a 0.21 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 7th place.
Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for AEW’s increases this week was due to the very large lead-in viewership from the Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat NBA Play-In Tournament game. Meltzer reported that AEW still had around 150,000 extra viewers than normal by the forty minute mark of their show that came from the massive lead-in by the NBA game. Meltzer also reported that Rampage’s first quarter viewership of 1,466,000 viewers was one of the highest ever for a quarter for an AEW show in AEW history.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 NBA Playoffs Play-in Tournament game of Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Minnesota Timberwolves drew 2,511,000 viewers on ESPN, On Patrol Live drew 730,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, 90 Day Other Way drew 504,000 viewers, Gold Rush Parker’s Trail drew 1,003,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, Gild Rush White Water drew 611,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, House Hunters drew 1,001,000 viewers on Home and Garden TV, and Love After Lockup drew 442,000 viewers on WETV.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 274,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 182,000 male viewers (up 27.3%) and 92,000 female viewers (up 16.5%) for a split of 66.4% in favor of males. Meltzer reported that week’s Rampage show was the twenty-third youngest skewing sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the twenty-fourth youngest skewed sports show, behind twelve NBA games, six soccer games, one NHL game, one UFC event, one PFL event, and that week’s WWE RAW show. In regards to that week’s RAW show, Meltzer reported that this was the first time in AEW and WWE history that a RAW show skewed younger than a Dynamite show in the same week. That week’s RAW show reportedly was ranked #22.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 32.6% in overall viewership but down 4.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 6.3% compared to the same week last year.
