Three New Matches Add to WrestleMania 39 Card

Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Kansas City, Missouri featured three new matches officially added to the card of next month’s WrestleMania 39 event in Inglewood, California.

The first two new matches announced were a Men’s and a Women’s Fatal Four-Way Team Team Showcase matches. WWE announced that qualifiers for both matches would be taking place starting with tonight’s SmackDown show. In regards to the Women’s Fatal Four-Way Tag Team Showcase match, Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan defeated Tegan Nox and Emma to qualify for one of the spots in the Women’s match.

The third and final new match was announced to be a Triple Threat for the Intercontinental Championship. Following last week’s double pinfall result for the #1 Contender’s Fatal 5-Way match, WWE official Adam Pearce made another #1 Contender’s match between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus for tonight’s show to settle who would get to face Gunther for the Intercontinental title at WrestleMania 39. During tonight’s show, Gunther and Imperium interrupted and attacked McIntyre and Sheamus resulting in a double disqualification ending. Pearce made a video appearance afterwards announcing that due to Imperium’s actions, Gunther will now be defending his title against both McIntyre and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39.
