NXT head booker Shawn Michaels held a media call on Thursday to promote this Saturday’s NXT Stand & Deliver 2023 event in Los Angeles, California.
One of the topics discussed included Michaels officially announcing that WWE’s next event for their NXT brand will be called Battleground and will be taking place on May 28th at Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts.
This is the same date as AEW’s upcoming Double or Nothing 2023 event in Las Vegas, Nevada. This event will also be starting at around the same time as AEW’s upcoming event as well at 7:30PM EST.
In a recent interview with BT Sport, Michaels stated that WWE did not purposely schedule their next NXT event to go head-to-head against AEW’s event and instead claimed that this was due to them simply picking this year’s Memorial Day holiday weekend to hold their own event.
“No, no. Look, I’ll say this, from a holiday standpoint, that’s the thing. In the past, we’ve done well on the holidays. It’s my understanding that’s why we did that. It’s not different than, we used to do stuff back in the day on Christmas and on Thanksgiving. Holidays are always big days. That’s what this is for us. We’re live on Peacock. Basically, sort of free. From my standpoint, it’s just the date was available. The holiday does really well for us.”
