As noted before, this past Monday’s WWE RAW show in Grand Rapids, Michigan featured the official confirmation of Brock Lesnar facing off against Omos in a match at this April’s WrestleMania 39 event.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that the reason why this match was booked for WrestleMania 39 was due to Lesnar had rejected a pitch for a potential feud and match with Bray Wyatt for the event. It was reported that Lesnar had personally approved a match with Omos instead for the event.
It was also reported that WWE officials currently have a back-up plan in place for Lesnar for WrestleMania 39 but this is currently not being factored in their creative plans for him.
It was also reported that their sources have yet to confirm nor deny a recent report from WrestleVotes about Vince McMahon being the person responsible for pushing for a match between Lesnar and Omos. Those close to Lesnar reportedly stated that this “could be true” while those spoken to within WWE stated that McMahon has not had any direct contact with Creative and was not responsible for the booking of the match. Those same sources within WWE reportedly also stated that McMahon has not had any recent direct contact with WWE’s creative team.
In regards to Lesnar’s match against Bobby Lashley at this past February’s Elimination Chamber 2023 event, Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that the original plans were for Lesnar to win in order to setup a feud with Wyatt. Those plans reportedly were changed following Lesnar nixing plans for a WrestleMania feud with Wyatt. Meltzer reported that this was the second time that WWE officials have changed their plans for Lesnar for WrestleMania 39 in the past few weeks.
