More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for March 15th

The March 15th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a small decline in key demographic rankings and a slight decline in overall viewership and key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 852,000 viewers and a 0.27 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 11th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to very stiff sports competition that night. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 15.2% compared to last week’s show, and stiff competition from Vanderpump Rules in recent weeks with female viewership. This reportedly offset the gains from their Over 50 viewership group, which was up 2.6% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Philadelphia 76ers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers drew 1,222,000 viewers on ESPN, the 2023 NCAA Basketball Tournament game of Nevada vs. Arizona State drew 1,375,000 viewers on TruTV, the 2023 NIT Basketball Tournament game of Virginia Tech vs. Cincinnati drew 543,000 viewers on ESPN2, the 2023 NIT Basketball Tournament game of UCF vs. Florida drew 321,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of Minnesota Wild vs. St. Louis Blues drew 348,000 viewers on TNT, the 2023 World Baseball Classic game of Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic drew 949,000 on FS1, Sistas Series drew 963,000 viewers on BET, Vanderpump Rules drew 1,078,000 viewers on Bravo, and Moonshiners drew 655,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 352,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 69.1% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, one of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 1,053,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 746,000 viewers for their seventh quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 14.2% in overall viewership and down 29.1% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 26% compared to the same week last year.

  • 1Q – 1,035,000 overall viewers and 404,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the MJF Re-Bar Mitzvah promo segment with Jack Perry, Sammy Guevara, & Darby Allin)
  • 2Q – 957,000 overall viewers and 380,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the MJF Re-Bar Mitzvah promo & brawl segment, the Chris Jericho video segment, and the start of the Dark Order & Hangman Adam Page vs. Blackpool Combat Club Trios match)
  • 3Q – 839,000 overall viewers and 347,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Dark Order & Page vs. Blackpool Combat Club Trios match and the Juice Robinson video promo segment)
  • 4Q – 835,000 overall viewers and 348,000 key demo viewers (TBS Championship match of Nicole Matthews vs. Jade Cargill (c) & post-match angle with Taya Valkyrie, the Ricky Starks backstage interview segment, and the QTV video segment)
  • 5Q – 837,000 overall viewers and 373,000 key demo viewers (AEW International Championship match of Jeff Jarrett vs. Orange Cassidy (c))

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for March 10th

The March 10th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and key demographic rankings and a small increase in key demographic ratings.

AEW drew 447,000 viewers and a 0.15 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 19th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very large gains from their younger key demographic viewership, which was up 83.3% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gains from their older key demographic viewership and Teenagers viewership groups, which were up 18.8% and 133.3% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the decline from their Over 50 viewership group, which was down 2.6% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Toronto Raptors vs. Los Angeles Lakers drew 428,000 viewers on NBA TV, the NBA game of Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Miami Heat drew 325,000 viewers on NBA TV, the NCAA basketball game of TCU vs. Texas drew 997,000 viewers on ESPN, the NCAA basketball game of Indiana vs. Maryland drew 955,000 viewers on Big Ten Network, the NCAA basketball game of Clemson vs. Virginia drew 901,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NCAA game of Creighton vs. Xavier drew 392,000 viewers on FS1, On Patrol Live drew 890,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Aussie Gold Hunters: Mine drew 382,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, 90 Day Other Way drew 445,000 viewers on TLC, and Love After Lockup drew 498,000 viewers on WETV.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 202,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 130,000 male viewers and 72,000 female viewers for a split of 64.4% in favor of males. Meltzer reported that week’s Rampage show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the twelfth youngest skewed sports show, behind 3 NBA games, four 2023 World Baseball Classic games, and four soccer games.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 15% in overall viewership and down 28.4% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 8.3% compared to the same week last year.

AEW Rampage quarter hour viewership breakdowns were:

  • 1Q – 519,000 overall viewers and 241,000 key demo viewers (Sammy Guevara vs. Action Andretti match)
  • 2Q – 435,000 overall viewers and 201,000 key demo viewers (Junle Boy Jack Perry backstage video promo, the QT Marshall & Powerhouse Hobbs backstage promo segment, The Acclaimed vs. Jack Cartwheel & Starboy Carlie tag team match, the Jericho Appreciation Society backstage promo segment, and the first half of the Konosuke Takeshita vs. Preston Vance match)
  • 3Q – 433,000 overall viewers and 189,000 key demo viewers (Second half of the Takeshita vs. Vance match, the Swerve Strickland backstage promo segment, the Mark Briscoe promo segment, and the HOOK & The Firm video segment)
  • 4Q – 400,000 overall viewers and 166,000 key demo viewers (Riho vs. Nyla Rose match and post-match angle with The Outcasts)
