More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for March 1st
The March 1st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership, a small decline in key demographic ratings, and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.
AEW drew 833,000 viewers and a 0.27 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 3rd place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to stiff sports competition from NBA that night and the very large decline from their younger key demographic viewership, which was down 42% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their Over 50 viewership group, which was down 9.5% compared to last week’s show.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Boston Celtics drew 1,264,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of Auburn vs. Alabama drew 753,000 viewers on ESPN2, the College basketball game of Texas vs. TCU drew 475,000 viewers on ESPN2, the NHL game of New York Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers drew 318,000 viewers on TNT, Sistas Series drew 999,000 viewers on BET, Challenge: Ride or Dies drew 385,000 viewers on MTV, South Park drew 479,000 viewers on Comedy Central, Vanderpump Rules drew 648,000 viewers on Bravo, and Moonshiners drew 749,000 viewers on Discovery Channel.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 354,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 72,000 viewers (down 46.3%), Females 18-34 had 48,000 viewers (down 23.8%), Males 35-49 had 178,000 viewers (down 11.5%), and Females 35-49 had 56,000 viewers (down 1.8%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 250,000 male viewers and 104,000 female viewers for a split of 70.6% in favor of males.
In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 948,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 736,000 viewers for their eighth quarter.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 13.8% in overall viewership and down 23% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 27.3% compared to the same week last year.

- 3Q – 894,000 overall viewers and 376,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the Face of the Ladder match & post-match angle with Wardlow and the Best Friends, Danhausen, & Orange Cassidy backstage segment)
- 4Q – 836,000 overall viewers and 352,000 key demo viewers (Chris Jericho vs. “Pretty” Peter Avalon match & post-match brawl with JAS & Ricky Starks, the Hangman Adam Page video promo segment, and the Christian Cage & Jack Perry promo segment)

More on AEW Rampage Viewership for February 24th
The February 24th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership, a large increase in key demographic rankings, and a small increase in key demographic ratings. That week’s show was notable for airing at its normal timeslot following the prior week’s show airing at an earlier timeslot due to TNT’s NBA All Star 2023 commitments.
AEW Rampage drew 409,000 viewers and a 0.11 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that week’s show was 30th place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s increases that week was due to the large gains from their key demographic viewership groups. Meltzer reported that when compared to the previous two weeks’ show, AEW generated large gains from their female key demographic viewership and Over 50 viewership groups, which were up 18.6% and 16.7% respectively. This reportedly helped offset the large declines from their younger key demographic viewership and male key demographic viewership groups, which were down 25% and 28.6% respectively compared to the prior two weeks’ show. AEW’s older key demographic viewership reportedly was around the same compared to the prior two weeks’ show.
In terms of head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Phoenix Suns drew 1,127,000 viewers on ESPN, the College basketball game of South Alabama vs. Louisiana drew 136,000 viewers on ESPN2, On Patrol Live drew 739,000 viewers on REELZ Channel, Aussie Gold Hunters: Mine drew 378,000 viewers on Discovery Channel, and Love After Lockup drew 550,000 viewers on WETV.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 139,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 88,000 male viewers (down 28.6% compared to prior two weeks’ show) and 43,000 female viewers (up 18.6% compared to prior two weeks’ show) for a split of 63.3% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage show did not rank in the Top 10 youngest skewing sports show for the week while that week’s Dynamite was the sixth youngest skewed sports show, behind one NBA games, three Liga MX soccer games, and one EPL soccer game.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 14.3% in overall viewership and down 40.5% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was equal compared to the same week last year.

- 3Q – 421,000 overall viewers and 133,000 key demo viewers (Latter half of the Storm vs. Nightingale match and post-match brawl with Saraya, Ruby Soho, Jamie Hayter, & Britt Baker, the Jade Cargill video promo segment, and the Lance Archer vs. Bryce Saturn match)
