AEW: Colt Cabana Update, Tony Khan on Sting’s Retirement Plans, Thunder Rosa Injury Update

Colt Cabana AEW Status Update

Colt Cabana has been absent from AEW programming since this past November and has made sporadic appearances since CM Punk’s official debut in the company. Cabana’s lack of appearances in AEW is currently rumored to be related to Punk’s debut and past issues between the two over the fallout from a defamation lawsuit filed by a former WWE doctor that was ruled in favor of Punk and Cabana.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that during his current on-screen absence, Cabana has resumed working backstage as a producer for AEW.

Cabana most recently made an appearance in a recent episode of Being The Elite in a skit involving the Dark Order’s on-going quest to recruit a new member to their group. Alex Reynolds, John Silver, and Evil Uno were talking about their ideal person for a new member and described traits that fit Cabana while he was standing in the background leading to Cabana thinking he was returning to the group. Instead, Reynolds, Silver, and Uno walked past Cabana and offered membership and a new name of Johnny Dark Order to John Hennigan.

Tony Khan Comments on Sting’s Retirement Plans

As noted before, Sting’s current contract with AEW is expected to expire at some point this year and he is currently working on retirement plans that would involve Darby Allin.

A recent episode of the In The Kliq podcast featured AEW CEO Tony Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts on Sting’s current plans for his retirement.

“I talk to Sting a lot. He is somebody who has been such a huge boost to AEW since he arrived. Sting debuted a little over two years ago at the first Winter is Coming event in AEW,” said Khan. “I catch up with him pretty frequently on a regular basis. I have to say, Sting’s motivation for pro wrestling is as high as it’s ever been. He loves what he’s doing. I do think he’s starting to think about what retirement will look like, but he’s also not slowing down at all in the present. So, I’m not ready to say exactly when Sting is going to hang it up, but I do know every time we get to see Sting go out there in AEW, it’s very special.”

Thunder Rosa Injury Status Update

As noted before, Thunder Rosa has been out of action for AEW since this past September due to her suffering a spinal-related injury.

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast featured Rosa as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Rosa providing an update on the status of her back injury.

“Since we’re talking about AEW, I’m probably going to be coming back on the road pretty soon. Not to wrestle, but we’re going to be out at AEW and showing face and being around all this stuff. It’s going to be nice to be around everyone and see how things unfold.”
