WWE reportedly is currently rumored to be considering a potential plan of having Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson win next year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Dave Meltzer reported that his sources stated that WWE officials are rumored to be considering potential plans for Johnson to make some sort of appearance at next year’s Royal Rumble event in San Antonio, Texas. This idea reportedly started to get talked about within WWE following the company’s recent announcement of next year’s event had already broke the all-time record for highest ever gate for an event in Royal Rumble history at $5 million.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials reportedly currently have a deadline of mid-January to lock in their plans for the main event of next year’s WrestleMania 39 event and any decision involving Johnson for the event would also need to be finalized by that time. Meltzer speculated that should Johnson want to do it and is sold on WWE’s idea, he likely would be the heavy favorite for the winner of next year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match and face off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in what would likely be his last match of his wrestling career. Meltzer reported that one idea described as a “pie in the sky” scenario would be Johnson entering next year’s Men’s Royal Rumble match as the surprise 30th entrant and winning it.
In regards to this past April’s WrestleMania 38 event in Dallas, Meltzer reported that WWE officials originally wanted Johnson to face off against Reigns at this event but Johnson was not interested and preferred next year’s event at Los Angeles as a better potential choice. This reportedly was the reason why Reigns faced Brock Lesnar instead at the event.
