AEW: Saraya on AEW Career Goals, New AEW Doc. Series Update, Thunder Rosa Injury Update

Saraya Comments on Her AEW Career Goals

A recent episode of The Sessions with Renee Paquette podcast had Saraya as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Saraya’s thoughts on her current goals for her career in AEW.

“At first it’s more of a comeback story, an official comeback and being in a different mindset of what I felt like I should have done the first time I came back. There are plenty of women that I want to have matches with eventually. I do want to do the stipulation matches that I didn’t get to do in WWE that the girls get to do now. Also, working more character work, try and build…I’m not going to completely let go of Paige, but a more elevated version of her. There are so many things we can do now. We have such creative freedom.

I have to rebuild a character and I’m not 100% sure what she’s going to do and where she’s going to go. I know the idea she wants, but in WWE, I knew my character, I knew Paige, I had been doing her for years. Getting people writing scripts, you can switch and change whatever. Now, who is Saraya? I have to start from the beginning again, at 30! It’s fucking wild.”

Warner Bros Discovery’s New AEW Behind-The-Scenes Documentary Series Production Update

As noted before, Warner Bros Discovery is currently filming a new upcoming AEW-based documentary series that will be a behind-the-scenes look into the company from the perspective of several AEW talents.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that both Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks likely will be part of this upcoming series. Meltzer speculated that this is likely one reason why they have been seen backstage in recent weeks during AEW shows despite not making an on-screen return during that time.

Meltzer reported that prior to Omega and the Young Bucks’ suspensions from the All Out 2022 backstage fight incident this past September, WBD officials had planned for all of them to be part of this upcoming series when the show was conceived.

Thunder Rosa Injury Status Update

As noted before, Thunder Rosa has been out of action for AEW since this past September due to her suffering a spinal-related injury.

Rosa recently provided an injury update on Instagram stating that she currently does not a timetable in place for her potential return from injury.

Shoutout to all the AEW women’s division. You guys are doing great, but I’m getting better. Time is coming. I’m coming back soon [she smiled].

I know you guys are really eager to know when I’m coming back. The news will come later. I’m sorry, I don’t have a timeline. I just wanna thank everyone for being so happy to see me and asking to come back.

In a recent interview with the Wrestling Perspective podcast, Rosa gave a follow-up update stating that she recently has been physically able to resume jogging for the first time in three months.

“I’m doing really well. This week, we made some good progress. I started running for the first time in almost 3 months. So, the physical activity is getting a little bit bigger and I’m allowed to do a lot more stuff than before. I’m not allowed to lift yet, I’m not allowed to do a lot of stuff. I’m not allowed to wrestle. But we’re making progress and the fact that I can actually jog for seven minutes on and off, for me, it’s huge because I have not been able to do that.

I have spoken to other patients that have had similar injuries that I have at the place that I go to. For a lot of us, you know, everybody’s different, it’s hit and miss when you’re talking about lower back injuries, always. You have to be very careful because you can injure it again. You utilize your back for everything. So I’m really hopeful that things will continue to progress the way they are. We’re taking our time, and we’re taking all the measures that I need to take to stay safe. Like I said, I’m really thankful that I’m allowed to go and do signings still, but I have to, again, be very careful, because my back gets irritated really easily. I don’t want to get a huge setback that is gonna take me from doing the basic stuff, cleaning my house, you know, taking care of like walking my dog, and all that stuff. Because you can really reinjure yourself. But I still don’t have like a set time yet, but again, I’m working really hard to get better, physically and mentally.

Because mentally, injuries can take a toll. I’m really happy that I can do that. I shared that with my family yesterday, and they’re all excited. The fact that I can do more physical activity to me is huge. Because when that is taken away from you, and you are forced to be sitting at home or to be chilling, I’m just cooking like a maniac. It’s hard on any athlete, but I’m really excited that I know when I come back, I’m gonna come back a lot stronger in many aspects than then when I left before.”
