AEW: More on Shibata’s Appearance, More on Jeff Jarrett’s Debut, Battle of the Belts V Date Announced

More on Katsuyori Shibata’s AEW Dynamite Appearance

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Baltimore, Maryland featured a surprise appearance by New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Katsuyori Shibata. Following the AEW All-Atlantic Championship Triple Threat match, PAC launched an ambush attack on Orange Cassidy, which was interrupted by Shibata’s surprise walk-in save appearance. Cassidy then gave Shibata a match contract for his dream match for this Friday’s Rampage show that he won as part of the stipulation for his successful title defense on the show.

Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources stated that Shibata had recently informed AEW officials that he wanted to compete in two matches in the company. Shibata reportedly gave Orange Cassidy and Bryan Danielson as his preferred choices for these potential matches.

Meltzer reported that this was the reason why AEW booked the dream match stipulation for the All-Atlantic Championship match on Dynamite. Meltzer also reported that it is currently not known if there is already a planned date for Shibata’s match against Danielson.

Jeff Jarrett Comments on Signing with AEW

Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show also featured the official AEW debut of Jeff Jarrett. Following Jay Lethal’s victory over Darby Allin, Jarrett made his surprise appearance attacking Allin and afterwards gave a promo bashing AEW’s locker room and fans. Following the show, AEW announced that Jarrett had signed an official contract with the company and will be working as their new Director of Business Development.

Jarrett recently reflected on Twitter about his recent signing with AEW.

In regards to Jarrett’s debut, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that AEW had Jarrett travel in secret to the show from Washington D.C. and was kept hidden backstage until it was time for his appearance. Johnson reported that the current belief is that Jarrett will be helping out on some of AEW’s current international-based events plans.
