WWE: Vince McMahon Docs. Update, Booker T on NXT Commentary Debut, SmackDown News

Vince McMahon Documentaries Status Updates

As noted before, VICE is currently planning to air a new wrestling-based documentary based on Vince McMahon titled The Nine Live of Vince McMahon. Besides VICE, Netflix is also currently producing a new docuseries based on McMahon that was rumored at one point to have been cancelled due to McMahon’s recent sexual misconduct allegations.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that those spoken to within VICE confirmed that the airing date for this upcoming documentary has been delayed from its originally scheduled October 18th date to a new date that has yet to be officially decided.

In regards to the Netflix docuseries, Meltzer reported that his sources stated that Netflix has been working on this upcoming series for the past two years. McMahon reportedly had informed those in charge of the series that he did not want it to be a “puff piece” about him since he felt that it would be boring. Meltzer reported that the original plans was for it to be a four-part series with episodes being one hour in length each. Meltzer also reported that it is currently not known when this docuseries will be released.

Booker T on WWE Commentary Return & Working for WWE’s NXT Brand

As noted before, WWE recently made several changes to their commentary teams for their RAW, SmackDown, and NXT brands. One of those changes included WWE Hall of Famer Booker T replacing Wade Barrett for NXT’s commentary team.

A recent episode of The Hall of Fame with Booker T & Brad Gilmore podcast featured co-host’s Booker T’s thoughts on his recent commentary debut for WWE’s NXT brand.

“Everything is different in NXT than it is on the main roster, which is a good thing for me. I found myself for probably the first 45 minutes waiting on someone to give me a little direction [laughs]. When that didn’t happen, I started feeling more comfortable and at ease and Booker T started coming out. I started getting more animated and that’s when I’m in my comfort zone. When I can yell, laugh, and start having fun. As well as watching these young guys display their talent.”

Booker T also gave his thoughts about wanting to help out the younger talent in WWE’s NXT developmental system.

“I’m excited about being part of NXT. I didn’t know how excited I was going to be because it’s a lot of students and young guys coming up and I feel like I’m in my coaching and teaching mode. There are so many young guys and girls who are like clay, just need to be molded down there. I’m in a perfect place to where I cannot get complacent. I don’t think I could ever get complacent with this many young guys. I had like 60 guys in my ear. They wanted to talk about this, they needed some of that, a little bit of this. This is going to be something really cool for me and something I’ve been wanting for a long time. Let’s get work and get cracking.”
