Billy Corgan Comments on Potential of NWA as Developmental Brand for WWE or AEW
Metro held a recent interview with National Wrestling Alliance owner Billy Corgan. One of the topics discussed included Corgan’s thoughts on the past talks he had with Paul “Triple H” Levesque over a potential deal for the NWA to air on the WWE Network.
“It didn’t go anywhere and that was fine – very, very good discussions, very open and cool. They certainly liked what I was trying to do, and they’ve always been cool about what I was doing in the NWA, so I remain optimistic going into the future that there might be some business there to do.”
Corgan also gave his thoughts on being open to the idea of the NWA becoming a developmental brand for WWE or AEW in the future.
“There might be economic models where they say, ‘Take these 10 talent, let us have an oversight position, you help develop these talents. It’d be good for the NWA, it’d be good for the WWE.’ There are lots of opportunities there! I would say the same thing even as it pertains to AEW – AEW has a tremendous amount of talent under contract, not everybody is able to be on their main shows, there might be opportunities where they wanna send those people on a developmental level.
If you’re a fan, it’s an exciting time! Things are wide open again as professional wrestling really was. The last 20 years is really an aberration to the way the professional business ran. Before the McMahons really took power of the wrestling culture for 20 years, wrestling was pretty much a wide open business. You might see a different flexibility with WWE as far as other company’s go, moving into the future. Certainly my conversations in the past with Triple H would indicate there’s a different degree of openness then maybe there would have been in the regime that was running things before.”
Bobby Fish Impact Wrestling Status Update
A recent episode of The Undisputed Podcast featured host Bobby Fish revealing that he is currently not signed to a contract with Impact Wrestling.
“A lot of people are making the assumption that I signed with IMPACT. I have not signed with anyone other than Global Titans, which is not pro wrestling. I do have the boxing match in November. Then, I have a second fight that will be determined. That’s really the only long-standing contract that I have. Everything else, I am figuring it out. IMPACT happens to be another one of those places. You don’t know where I’m going to show up. I could turn up at Colony High School wrestling or the Survivor Series.
Fish also gave his thoughts on his recent match against Josh Alexander for the Impact World Championship.
“Josh Alexander, I was expecting it to be good, but it even exceeded the expectations. He’s good at what he does. I like to think that I’m good at what I do. That’s when wrestling can be something cool. I feel we were able to put something cool together. A little more conversation and time than we had, but nothing needed to be overdone or overproduced. We’re just two guys who have been doing this long enough that we can go out and let it fly. I thought we did a good amount of that and there was so much organic stuff that transpired in that match and that’s what made it good. Josh is real good.”
