As noted before, Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara were involved in a backstage altercation incident prior to the start of Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite show in Washington, D.C. Following the incident, Andrade’s match against 10 for this Friday’s Rampage was called off and he was sent home while Guevara was allowed to stay in order to compete in the main event match that had been advertised for Wednesday’s Dynamite show.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that he was told five different stories about the backstage incident based on those spoken to. Of the five stories, three were mostly identical while a fourth was almost similar to those three stories.
Meltzer reported that both Andrade and Guevara had been told by AEW officials this past Tuesday to not get into a fight backstage or else they would be sent home. Andrade reportedly was specifically told he would not be fired should a fight occur for reasons that were not given. Both Andrade and Guevara reportedly agreed and stated that there would not be any issues between them.
In regards to the altercation itself, Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that Guevara did not throw any punches nor did he fight back after Andrade had punched him, with one source claiming it was a “sucker punch.” One source reportedly stated that the incident started after Andrade had waited for Guevara in a hallway and threw at least two punches.
In regards to TMZ’s report of the incident, Meltzer reported that it came from Andrade’s side which is why it was only partially true in regards to the details of the fight and being wrong when it came to both guys being sent home.
In regards to Andrade’s status, Meltzer reported that it is currently not known what AEW plans to do with him. Those spoken to reportedly speculated that Andrade’s recent behavior might have been his way of trying to get out of his contract with the company in order to go back to WWE.
