Bobby Fish on Why He Tried Kicking Out of the Finish to His Match with CM Punk & Issues It Caused
WrestlingHeadlines.com held a recent interview with Bobby Fish. One of the topics discussed included Fish’s reasons why he decided to try to kick out of the finish to his match against CM Punk in AEW in October of 2021.
“The match that I had with Punk, where things go wonky at the end of that match with the kick out on the GTS, which isn’t even his move. That’s me giving into my desire to be a little bit petty in that regard. It’s KENTA’s move and you didn’t even have the decency to change the name. Regardless, the confusion at the end of our match was the fact that he did what’s called ‘the office’ or an ‘iggy.’ This is some inside baseball stuff here. He did that before the three count was over. Having been in the business for a long time, I recognize what that is and have done it myself to somebody to say, in our way, ‘whatever, good match.’ He did it before the three count was over. That’s also a way to alert your opponent that, ‘Hey, let’s change something.’ In that moment, I can liken it to what Tony Khan might have been feeling when he’s going off on the EVPs. You don’t know what to do. In that moment, I know for myself, I had to make a split-second decision, couldn’t weigh out this or that. I had to kick out or not kick out and lose the moment forveer. I kicked out. Being whatever it was.
Only reason I bring it up is because we’re talking about it and I do want to extend some grace to Tony in that regard, just because I’ve been there. To be caught in that position, he definitely should have reacted differently, Hunter [Triple H] or Vince McMahon would have potentially folded Phil like a wet nap in that moment, which is probably the right reaction. In Tony’s defense, that might not be his personality. Here it is, in this moment, he’s hitched the cart of his company to the back of this guy, given him not only a lot of money, but a lot of trust, and you’re kind of shitting all over that right next to him. It’s a sucky position for everyone.”

Nyla Rose Comments on Writing a Comic Book for Marvel Comics
A recent episode of the Complex Unsanctioned podcast had Nyla Rose as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Rose’s thoughts on the process that led to her working for Marvel Comics as a guest writer as a side job to her career in AEW.
“It was, I wanna say a roller coaster, but it wasn’t. It’s hard for me to put it in words. I never expected something like that to be offered, let alone happen. Left field, it kinda came out of left field. Two All Outs ago or whatever it was, I had Mystique gear because the subtle subtext of my mind, I’ve got a lot of gears, of looks that I want to tackle, that I wanna do. Mystique was on there, but she was down a little bit. I’m like wait, we’re doing a battle royale, lots of bodies. Mystique, shape-shifter, this makes sense, let’s bump that up. So I did the Mystique gear for the battle royale, and Steve Orlando, who writes for X-Men, saw that. Prior to this, unbeknownst to me, the talks in the office were to bring Thunderbird back, and they wanted to have some actual authentic indigenous voices attached to this. He was like, I wanna pick your brain, get your insight. He’s obviously a X-Men fan, a Marvel fan, a comics fan. But he’s also a wrestling fan as well. Like I said, unbeknownst to me, he kinda had in mind to at least talk to me a little bit. He kinda threw it out there to them to have me be attached to the project, and they were all for it. So he was like, ah, I don’t know how she’ll do with this, I don’t know how she’ll go, whatever whatever, and when he saw the Mystique gear, he’s like, Oh, she’s gonna love this, let’s do this.
So he pitched it to me and I was like absolutely, let’s rock and roll. Obviously the next part is history. We got together, and I had no idea how to approach writing a comic, so I wrote it how I would normally write a script when I do sketches, sketch comedy, whatever it is. I wrote it how I would normally just write a script, and he fine-tuned it and we bounced ideas back and forth off of each other. It was such a beautiful, harmonious relationship. It was probably supposed to be much more painful and much more of a headache, but him and I were absolutely on the same page almost every step of the way. If I was thinking, if he was already writing it down, or we would have written down very similar ideas. So it flowed very smoothly for a first-time comics writer and a first-time team-up.
I didn’t expect it. There was no hint of it, and it was just like two of my worlds colliding.”
