AEW: New Match for All Out 2022, Darby Allin on Paying $12K to Buy Out EVOLVE Contract, Ricky Starks

New Match Added for Pre-Show of All Out 2022

AEW CEO Tony Khan recently announced a new match for the card of AEW’s upcoming All Out 2022 event on September 4th in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

This was announced to be a single match of Tomohiro Ishii vs. Eddie Kingston’s for the pre-show of All Out 2022.

In an interesting note, Khan stated that All Out’s pre-show will not be using the usual Buy-In name for AEW events and instead will be using the Zero Hour name used for Ring of Honor events.

Darby Allin Comments on Taking Out a Loan to Buy Out His Contract with EVOLE to Join AEW

A recent episode of the DDP Snakepit podcast had Darby Allin as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Allin revealing that he paid around $12,000 to buy out his contract with EVOLVE and World Wrestling Network in order to join AEW in 2019.

“At the time, I was signed with another little promotion, and then the moment I heard that Cody was interested, long story short I paid $12,000 to get out of my contract. I took a loan out and then I remember I used to hit Cody up every day, just blow his phone up.

I just heard there was this new company starting up and then this is before TV was even talked about. I was like this is crazy. All I heard when they were promoting it was the word ‘creative freedom’ and I was like, ‘That’s where I need to be.

At the time, I was kind of being groomed to go to NXT and I saw the writing on the wall. This was back when 205 Live was a thing if you remember 205 Live, and I was like, ‘Hell f***ing no, I’m not going there to do that.

It was a feeling I had that I had to go [to AEW], I was just so drawn to it.”

Allin also gave his thoughts on working with Sting in AEW.

“When he first got to AEW he originally signed on for just cinematic matches. So, he signed up for cinematic matches and then we were training at his house down in Texas because he had a ring down there. I just straight up said to him, ‘Man, we don’t need to do cinematic matches, let’s do this live.’ And then I kind of convinced him to think about it.

There’s nothing we have to hide here with your performance.”

Allin also revealed that Sting and himself will be competing at AEW’s upcoming All Out 2022 event and their match will be officially announced during tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

“We got All Out, me and Sting will be there, our match will be announced Wednesday. We will be at All Out.”

Ricky Starks Comments on Origin of His Pose Taunt & AEW Titles Goal

A recent Bleacher Report AMA had Ricky Starks as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Starks stating that his signature pose taunt during his matches was not inspired by the late Michael Jackson.

“No. I am not a Michael Jackson fan. I am a Prince fan. If anything, not to say MJ isn’t good but anything past ‘Off The Wall’ I do not care for. My taunt came from when I was younger. I would grab my head when I was feeling good about myself or some food was good. I saw a picture of it recently and it kind of stuck when I started doing it. It’s just one of those moments you feel when you’re doing something good and feeling right. It’s like one of those statue poses in the Greek or Roman era.”

Starks also gave his thoughts about his goals for his AEW career after the end of his current feud with Powerhouse Hobbs.

“I definitely think going for the AEW World Title and going for the TNT Title as well. It’s been a long time coming with me and things have been brewing. I don’t think of myself as an up-and-coming star. I hate that word because I’m a current star. It’s just a matter of putting the pen to paper and really just proving my worth, which I’ve been doing since 2020.”
