AEW: RUSH Contract Update, Tony Khan on Interim AEW Title Decision, KiLynn King Departure

RUSH’s AEW Contract Status Update

This past May’s AEW Double or Nothing 2022 event featured the official AEW debut of RUSH. During a backstage segment, Andrade El Idolo revealed that he had formed a new business partnership with a mystery person, who was revealed to be former ROH talent RUSH.

Lucha Libre Online held a recent interview with RUSH. One of the topics discussed included RUSH revealing that he is currently under a per-date type deal with AEW.

“Grateful with Tony Khan for giving me the opportunity. We are still under talks and negotiations. For now, there are just dates (not a full time contract). I already did the first jump (step), which is being in the PPV, and not just a segment, but they gave it the value that both Rush and Andrade have. They left that promo for the end. Nobody expected it, not even my own family.”

Tony Khan Comments on CM Punk Injury & Decision for AEW World Interim Title

A recent episode of the Busted Open Radio podcast had AEW CEO Tony Khan as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Khan’s thoughts on CM Punk’s injury.

“It is a setback, but we’re really excited to get CM Punk back. He’s gonna have surgery here very quickly and I am very nervous about it, but on the other hand, pretty optimistic because he’s gonna be seeing one of the top doctors in the entire world and someone really renowned in sports medicine. We were fortunate to be able to get him in quickly. So I’m excited to get him back.”

Khan also gave his thoughts about his reason for not stripping CM Punk of his AEW World title and holding a tournament to crown an interim champion instead.

“[It’s] Based on what happens in real fights, and to me, in the world of fighting, this is what you do. You have a great champion, and if they’re injured, you name an interim champion and set up an exciting unification fight. And I think we have a great chance to set something exciting up.”
