More on MJF’s AEW Contract Status, Backstage Reaction to Las Vegas Incident, & Meeting with Tony Khan

As noted before, MJF was involved in an incident this past weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. This incident revolved around MJF no showing an AEW Meet & Greet fan fest event he was scheduled to appear, which led to AEW offering refunds or exchanges for other AEW talent. MJF’s status and match against Wardlow for AEW’s Double or Nothing 2022 event was in doubt at the time but MJF ended up working at the event for his scheduled match.

In regards to MJF’s contract status with AEW, Fightful Select reported that their sources close to MJF stated that his contract is currently set to expire on January 1, 2024. PW Torch’s Wade Keller reported that his sources stated that MJF had initially signed a starter contract with AEW and had been given a significant pay raise at some point but this new amount was “modest compared to the contracts of more than a half dozen free-agent signings AEW has made over the past year.”

In regards to MJF’s appearance at Double or Nothing 2022, PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that MJF had arrived at the venue “at the last minute” and left the venue shortly after his match with Wardlow. These same sources also stated that AEW officials currently do not expect MJF to be on the road nor work at their upcoming set of television tapings.

In regards to the backstage reaction to MJF’s recent incident in Las Vegas, Fightful Select reported that the general reaction was one of confusion. Several talent spoken to stated that they were confused by MJF’s recent actions while others were not sure if the whole incident was just an elaborate work by MJF and AEW CEO Tony Khan. It was reported that most of AEW’s locker room did not learn of MJF’s walk out incident in Las Vegas until after reports were released of a flight being booked for him out of the city. Several talent reportedly had tried to contact MJF afterwards to find out what was going on with him.

In a separate report, Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that MJF and Khan were scheduled to have a meeting in Las Vegas today to try to potentially resolve MJF’s current issues with his contract. It was also reported that they have yet to confirm if this whole incident by MJF is legitimate or had evolved into an elaborate work over the weekend.
