WWE: Cody Rhodes on RAW Promo Being “Unscripted”, Randy Orton on His Legacy, WWE Evil Ratings

Cody Rhodes Comments on His Promo on RAW Being “Unscripted”

A recent episode of WWE The Bump had Cody Rhodes as the guest. Some of the topics discussed included Rhodes’ thoughts about his first promo back in WWE during this past Monday’s episode of RAW and expecting polarizing reactions to his WWE return.

On the topic of his “unscripted” promo during this past Monday’s episode of RAW, Rhodes stated:

“I have told that story, I think I posted it one time because I have the physical WWWF Championship in the photo. I had posted about that, but I have only told the story to a few fans, a few friends, it’s a very limited number of people. I, as a professional, wanted to present it in the most digestible way. It’s incredibly real, from the heart, not scripted. That’s probably a good precedent to set for me when it comes to being here now and being on this team. That’s how I’d like to present myself in terms of, I know what I’m doing with a microphone and I don’t need to be told. That was a case of, ‘I’m just going to tell you a real story anyway.’ I was really glad to tell it because…it’s very hard, but I was glad to tell it because my dream shifted a great deal in the industry as things changed for me. How often do you get another opportunity? I wasn’t ready. I didn’t do it and I’m sorry Dad that I didn’t get it done, but I have a family myself now and I can get it done still, even with him not here.”

On the topic of him expecting polarizing reactions for his WWE return, Rhodes stated:

“I was trying very hard not to have expectations, but you have to. I was expecting a more polarizing reaction because of the last bit of wrestling I had done I was a bit more of “let’s go, Cody, Cody sucks” type, which I love. But also, I’m an outsider. I broke the throne, I helped create an alternative promotion, I caused an incredible amount of disturbance in this world and everyone, how beautiful of it, it wasn’t a negative return, it was positive. I got the vibe the next day, it wasn’t about leaving as it was about returning and that felt like a triumphant return.

I was expecting some detractors to it all and I would have loved that just as much, but it didn’t seem we got any of that.”

Randy Orton Comments on His Legacy in Wrestling

A recent episode of the Out of Character with Ryan Satin podcast had Randy Orton as the guest. One of the topics discussed included Orton’s thoughts about his legacy in the wrestling.

“I think my legacy is longevity. I think finding a way to do it in a smart way to where you stay true to the things from the era of my father, the art of professional wrestling, not just thinking that, ‘Okay, if I clothesline this guy’s head off, because I was a big, bad linebacker in the NFL, and that’s what’s gonna get me to my next week and get people to buy my t-shirts, and that’s what’s gonna get me over.’ No, we got to do this 200 times a year.

I want my legacy to be that I made sure that the guys like Edge, and Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles and, God, I miss Daniel Bryan. I wish he was still here. But these guys that are coming up like Priest, Theory, the Street Prophets, Riddle, these guys that have all the potential in the world. In some cases, like the first guys, I listed, Roman as well, these guys that can work, and they know the art of this business, I want my legacy to be that I was able to, with these gentlemen, take this business to the next generation and make sure that that new wave of talent knows how to do it the right way, staying true to the art of what it is, and making sure that number one priority is taking care of your opponent’s health that you’re in the ring with. That needs to be number one in every case. I think if that’s my legacy, I’m happy with that.”
