Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Qualifier
Adam Cole vs. Tomohiro Ishii

We see Adam Cole and Tomohiro Ishii already in the ring after the “Exclusive Entrances” take place prior to the show going live on TNT.

The bell sounds and we’re off-and-running with this one, which will see the winner advance to be the next confirmed participant in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Cole and Ishii trade some back-and-forth offense as the commentators bring the fans up to speed regarding Tony Khan’s “huge announcement” from this past Wednesday night’s Dynamite.

For those who missed it, a special co-promoted AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) show was announced, as AEW & NJPW: Forbidden Door goes down on June 26, 2022 from the United Center in Chicago, Illinois live on pay-per-view.

Cole starts to take over on offense. He delivers punishment to the NJPW star in the ring and for a bit outside the ring, where we see “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy hanging around.

Back in the ring, Ishii starts to fire up for an offensive comeback, cutting Cole’s momentum short with a big suplex. The commentators discuss among themselves what Orange Cassidy is doing at ringside.

Shortly after that, we head to a mid-match, picture-in-picture commercial break just as Cole starts to take over again on offense, cutting Ishii’s attempted comeback short and continuing his dominance inside the squared circle.

When we return from the break, we see Cole still in control of the action. Ishii ends up connecting with a super kick that kills Cole’s momentum.

Ishii looks for another super kick, but is countered. Cole attempts to set him up for a Panama Sunrise, but doesn’t get it.

Now we see Ishii start to take over and is close to finishing off Cole when out of nowhere, “Switchblade” Jay White, makes his way out and provides an indirect assist for Cole, throwing Rocky Romero into the ring steps, which distracts Ishii. Cole then hits a low blow on Ishii and finishes him off with the Boom.

With the win, Adam Cole advances to the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.

Backstage: Jericho Appreciation Society

We shoot backstage and see security with Jericho Appreciation Society. Chris Jericho gloats and then Daniel Garcia walks up and vows to beat Eddie Kingston tonight.

Jericho tells security to let him through, but security won’t let them because they’re banned from ringside. Jericho then he gives some moral support to Garcia, saying he knows he’s going to kick “The Mad King’s” ass.

Backstage: Hook, Danhausen

Hook is walking backstage and we see Danhausen throwing a bunch of potato chips on the floor and stomping on them.

Hook grabs Danhausen and pushes him up against a wall. He actually speaks, telling Danhausen, “You want my attention? Now you’ve got it.” He walks off.

Lance Archer vs. Serpentico

We head back inside the ring where Lance Archer’s theme hits. Joining the gang on commentary for our next match is “The Chairman of AEW” Shawn Spears.

The Pinnacle member talks about how Archer is going to manhandle Wardlow when the two meet next week.

As “The Murderhawk Monster” nears the ring, Serpentico tries to ambush him but ends up getting himself beaten down.

The action finally hits inside the ring where the bell sounds to officially get this one off-and-running.

Literally seconds later, Archer nails Serpentico with his finisher the Black Out and puts a boot on his chest for an easy squash match victory.

Winner: Lance Archer

Archer hits Serpentico with his own “Powerbomb Symphony” after the match in a message to Wardlow ahead of their match on Dynamite.

Spears again gloats about how Archer is going to do the same to “piggy” Wardlow. Jake “The Snake” Roberts is shown at ringside smiling.

We see a highlight video package for Tony Nese, hyped up by his new manager Mark Sterling.

Eddie Kingston vs. Daniel Garcia

As soon as the match begins, Kingston runs across the ring and starts beating Garcia with rapid-fire punches to the body.

He continues to manhandle his smaller opposition, with the action spilling out to the floor. Garcia ends up in the offensive driver’s seat by the time the match resumes inside the ring, and he puts the boots to “The Mad King” before handling him with some ground work on the mat.

Kingston starts to show signs of life, blasting Garcia with a big knife-edge chop. Garcia cuts off Kingston’s comeback attempt with a shoulder to the gut. Excalibur points out that the J.A.S. member is focusing his attack on the ribs of Kingston.

As Garcia continues to handle “The Mad King,” adding further punishment to the bread basket of the fan-favorite AEW star, we see Kingston attempt to fight back.

Unfortunately, Garcia has a firm grasp on his offensive control, as he brings Kingston out to the floor at ringside and shoves him into the steel ring post. After that, we head to a mid-match commercial break as the action in this bout continues.

When we return from the break, we see Garcia is still handling Kingston inside the ring. Kingston starts to finally show signs of life as he blasts Garcia with a loud chop that echos throughout the Pittsburgh-venue.

Garcia refuses to let go of the control of the offense, as he continues to take it to “The Mad King.” Eventually, however, Kingston stumbles to his feet and blasts Garcia with another big chop.

The two start exchanging back-and-forth chops now and Kingston eventually takes over. He ultimately connects with a big spinning back-fist that flattens the J.A.S. member and gives him the pin fall victory.

Winner: Eddie Kingston

After the match, Kingston gets on the microphone and tells Garcia to give a message to his boss — Chris Jericho. He says he’s coming for him next.

We shoot backstage where Tony Schiavone is standing by with Keith Lee and Shane “Swerve” Strickland.

The two talk about how they came up short against Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs and vow to get revenge on the Team Taz duo before it is all said-and-done.

We shoot back inside the Petersen Events Center in Pittsburgh, PA. where the camera settles at the commentary desk for a reaction from Ricky Starks, who has Powerhouse Hobbs standing beside him. Starks refers to Keith Lee and Shane Strickland as a “broke ass Keenan & Kel” and delivers a few more insults before we head to another commercial break.

Backstage: Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D., Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm

Team DMD doesn’t even seem to be on Toni Storm’s radar as #OwenHart Women’s Tournament Qualifiers @RealBrittBaker, @jmehytr & #ToniStorm fight for the top spot.

We return from the break to the backstage interview zone, where we see Tony Schiavone standing by with three talents from the AEW Women’s division.

Toni Storm begins speaking, taking Britt Baker to task for her arrogance. She claims she hasn’t earned the right to have the ego that she does.

Storm questions what Baker has done besides capture the AEW Women’s Championship to warrant her attitude.

She then tells Hayter that she’ll see her in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament.

We get a video package for the upcoming Dax Harwood vs. Cash Wheeler Owen Hart qualifier match that will happen this Wednesday on Dynamite.

Jade Cargill (c) vs. Marina Shafir

We shoot backstage where Mark Henry hosts his weekly pre-main event split-screen interview segment. “The World’s Strongest Man” is joined by the competitors involved in our championship headline bout scheduled for tonight’s show. We see Marina Shafir on one side of the screen and the duo of Jade Cargill and “Smart” Mark Sterling on the other. They don’t say much of anything in an interview segment that only lasted a few seconds this week before Henry declares that there has been enough talk and that, yes, it is indeed time for our main event of the evening.

After a quick shot of “The Baddie” section seated at ringside and then we hear the bell sound to get this one off-and-running.

Straight out of the gate we see Cargill taking it to Shafir. The action spills out to the floor where the champ continues her dominance, stopping briefly to pose with her Baddie section.

Back inside the squared circle, Cargill manhandles Shafir some more and nearly picks up the three-count just a couple of minutes into this contest.

Shafir hangs on, however, and the action continues. Cargill remains in control of the offense though, and nearly finishes the former women’s MMA fighter off once again after connecting with a big spot.

On that note, we head to a mid-match commercial break as our final bout of the evening continues. When we return from the break, we see Cargill still dominating the action.

Shafir ends up showing signs of life, finally getting in some offense as she traps the undefeated champion in a heel hook / leg-lock out of the blue.

We see the women’s MMA star crank back on the hold with all that she’s got. Cargill eventually escapes and the action spills out to the floor where “That B*tch” ends up hoisting Shafir up and violently putting her through the time-keepers table at ringside.

The commentators point out how hard the back of Shafir’s head appeared to hit on the way down. We see some replays of the spot as Cargill once again poses with “The Baddie” section.

Back in the ring, we once again see Shafir catch Cargill in a ground hold, as she locks in a similar heel hook / leg-lock submission attempt on the 29-0 champion.

Cargill eventually escapes after repeatedly kicking at the face of the challenger with her free leg while her other leg is stuck in the aforementioned hold.

Finally, Cargill gets out and hoists a nearly lifeless Shafir up in the air. She connects with her finisher, Jaded, and scores the easy pin fall victory to improve to a perfect 30-0, retaining her TBS Women’s Championship (here on TNT!) in the process.

The bell sounds and Cargill celebrates the big win, proudly raising her title in the air as her theme plays and confetti shoots out from the ceiling.
