As noted before, the Japanese government recently closed their borders to all foreigners traveling to the country and enacted stricter travel quarantine rules in order to prevent the spread of the newest variant of COVID-19 in the country.
In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, New Japan Pro Wrestling President Takami Ohbari stated that he was recently told by government officials that the new travel ban does not apply to their foreign-based talent who already have working visas in the country.
This means that Will Ospreay and NJPW’s other foreign-based talents are currently expected to still be able to perform at next month’s Wrestle Kingdom 16 event.
In regards to the new travel ban, Bloomberg’s Kurumi Mori reported that this new ban does not apply to flights that were booked prior to the government’s announcement nor to flights that transition through the country. This new ban reportedly also will not prevent people from leaving the country as well. Mori also reported that the current ban can also be shortened or extended depending on how the Omicron variant situation develops in the country.
