As noted before, WWE released eighteen wrestlers and several high-level office employees from the company this past Thursday. Among the notable wrestlers released included Keith Lee, Karrion Kross, Scarlett Bordeaux, Nia Jax, and Eva Marie.
Fightful Select reported that Oney Lorcan and Gran Metalik had previously requested for their releases but were denied prior last week. It was reported that as of last month, Lince Dorado had not personally asked to be released from his contract based on recent conversations held with him but it is not known if he changed his mind leading up to last week’s batch of releases.
In regards to Nia Jax, it was reported that their sources confirmed that Jax had asked for time off and was originally scheduled to return in mid-November before asking for additional time off. It was reported that WWE officials did have some tentative creative plans for her return but nothing long-term.
In regards to Eva Marie, it was reported that besides not having any plans for her prior to her release, WWE officials also never had any real long-term creative plans following her return to the company in October of 2020. It was reported that the plans for her and Doudrop to be put together as a pairing were formed this past March but WWE officials and creative team decided to do nothing with those plans until the start of the filming of vignettes for her return this past May.
In regards to Jeet Rama, it was reported that their sources stated that his release was primarily due to some poor luck over the coronavirus pandemic hindering WWE’s plans to expand into India and his older age. It was reported that WWE’s creative never had any real pans for him and him turning 41 years old in a couple of months made him be viewed as expendable by company officials.
