As noted before, Ring of Honor announced that they will be going on a hiatus until at least April of 2022 as part of the company’s current plans to make major changes to their business operations and strategy for their future.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources within the company stated that ROH currently has a venue locked in for next year’s Supercard of Honor event in Dallas, Texas in early April. Johnson also reported that despite the company’s hiatus announcement, ROH officials are currently planning to continue airing their weekly ROH TV series during their hiatus period. ROH TV reportedly will pivot to being a mix of archival footage and other content for new episodes during this time period.
In regards to the decision to go on a hiatus, Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that the decision was made by ROH’s parent company Sinclair Broadcast Group. Sapp reported that ROH COO Joe Koff had informed talent that he was in multiple meetings with Sinclair officials fighting for the company but in the end he was not able to change their minds. Sapp also reported that ROH talent were informed that there would be some type of television show for the company after their Final Battle 2021 event but were not given any details about it.
In regards to the company’s future direction, Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that the company is currently planning to focus primarily towards non-contracted indie talent for shows. Meltzer reported that under these plans, ROH would “essentially be an indie promotion” in regards to being able to book top indie talent available for nights that they have events and television tapings. Meltzer also reported that this plan would also leave themselves open to issues should a champion of theirs get signed to a deal elsewhere.
