Christian Cage Wins Impact World Championship

Christian Cage is the new Impact World Champion, defeating Kenny Omega Friday night on the first episode of AEW Rampage.

At the end of the match, Don Callis got up on the apron to distract the referee, allowing Omega to low blow Christian and the Young Bucks to run out to the ring and slide in a chair for Omega. Omega sat the chair up in the ring and was going to hit Christian with a One Winged Angel on it, but Christian reversed it and hit Omega with the Killswitch onto the chair as the ref was still distracted, giving him the win.

Christian is also scheduled to face Omega again for the AEW World Championship at All Out on September 5.

Impact announced that Christian will be at their next set of TV tapings in Nashville on August 16 and 17.

And he will defend the Impact World Championship against Brian Myers on August 20 at the Impact Emergence Impact Plus special.

This is the first time Christian has won the Impact World Championship, but he did win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship twice in 2006 and 2007 in TNA back when that was their top title. He wrestled for TNA from 2005-2008.

Omega held the Impact World Championship since April 25. He will also defend his AAA Mega Championship against Andrade El Idolo tonight (Saturday) at AAA Triplemanía XXIX.

Impact executive VP Scott D’Amore said on Twitter, “It’s time to bid adieu to Kenny Omega & Don Callis,” which could imply that they may be done with Impact.
