More on WWE NXT Viewership for July 13
The July 13th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a sizable increase in overall viewership and a slight increase in key demographic ratings.
NXT drew 705,000 viewers and a 0.19 key demographic rating on USA Network. NXT’s key demographic rating for that night is currently not known.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that despite stiff sports competition, this week’s NXT show drew its highest viewership since their May 4th episode. Meltzer reported that one reason for the increase in viewership for this week’s show was due to the higher than usual overall male viewership it generated. In regards to head-to-head competition, the MLB All-Star Game drew 8,240,000 viewers on FOX.
In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 246,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that NXT’s overrun this week was the first time in a long time to hit 300,000 key demographic viewers for a segment on a NXT show. This week’s overrun featured the latter half of the NXT Championship match and Karrion Kross’ post-match attack on Samoa Joe. NXT’s biggest increase was their Males 18-34 group at 17.1% higher than last week’s show. NXT’s sole decrease was with their Females 18-34 group at 21.7% lower than last week’s show.
In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was up 12% in overall viewership and up 31.2% in key demographic viewership.
WWE NXT started off with around 650,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the Joe and Kross backstage segment, the Sarray vs. Gigi Dolan match, and the Legado del Fantasma backstage promo segment which gained 49,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Duke Hudson vignette and the Dexter Lumis vs. Santos Escobar match which lost 56,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 160,000 viewers to end the night.
More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for July 14
The July 14th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a very sizable increase in both overall viewership and key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being a Fyter Fest Night 1 themed special.
AEW drew 1,025,000 viewers and a 0.40 key demographic rating on TNT. AEW’s key demographic ranking for this week’s show was 1st place.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that despite very stiff sports competition, the main reason for the increase in viewership for this week’s show was due to the large gains AEW had with their younger viewership. Meltzer reported that this week’s show also skewed much younger than AEW’s usual average for shows. In regards to head-to-head competition, the NBA Finals Game 4 of Phoenix Suns vs. Milwaukee Bucks drew 10,250,000 viewers on ABC.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 518,000 viewers. All four of AEW’s key demographic groups increased with their biggest increase being their Females 18-34 group at 65.9% higher than last week’s show. Meltzer reported that for the first time in AEW’s history, this week’s AEW Dynamite show managed to top this week’s WWE’s RAW show in terms of Males 18-49 and Males 35-49 viewership. AEW had 352,000 viewers compared to RAW’s 331,000 viewers for Males 18-49 group and AEW had 259,000 viewers compared to RAW’s 233,000 viewers for Males 35-49 group. AEW reportedly fell short by around 5,000 viewers of tying RAW in the Males 18-34 group at 98,000 viewers for RAW compared to 93,000 viewers for AEW.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 30.1% in overall viewership and up 36.3% in key demographic viewership.
Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that AEW’s peak in overall viewership was at around 1,133,000 viewers during the 9:15PM to 9:30PM quarter-hour. This quarter featured the Britt Baker interview segment, the Nyla Rose & Vickie Guerrero backstage promo segment, the Chris Jericho backstage interview and ambush attack by Shawn Spears & MJF, and the Sammy Guevara vs. Wheeler Yuta match.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 942,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the ending of the FTW Championship match of Brian Cage vs. Ricky Starks, Cody Rhodes & Malakai Black promo and brawl segment, and the Santana, Ortiz, & Tully Blanchard backstage segment which gained 158,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Lance Archer & Jake Roberts backstage promo segment, the Andrade interview segment, and the bulk of the FTW Championship match which lost 81,000 viewers.
