More on WWE NXT Viewership for May 4
The May 4th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a small rise in overall viewership but also suffered a sizeable decline in the key demographic rankings.
NXT drew 761,000 viewers and a #21 ranking in the 18-49 demographic on USA Network.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the 18-34 demographic group rating for this week’s show managed to drop down to the level NXT had been doing during their time on Wednesdays. Meltzer also reported that the drop suffered in their 18-49 demographic group almost managed to reach what NXT had done on Wednesdays. In regards to head-to-head competition, the NBA game of Milwaukee Bucks vs. Brooklyn Nets on TNT drew 1,118,000 viewers and a 0.38 key demographic rating while the MLB game of Houston Astros vs. New York Yankees on ESPN drew 740,000 viewers and a 0.18 key demographic rating.
In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 229,000 viewers. All four of NXT’s key demographic groups were down with the biggest decline being their Males 18-34 group at 34.1% lower than last week’s show.
In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was up 15.1% in overall viewership and around even in key demographic viewership.
WWE NXT started off with around 712,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the ending of the Grizzled Young Veterans vs. Tommaso Ciampa & Timothy Thatcher match, and William Regal, Johnny Gargano, & Austin Theory backstage segment which gained 53,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest decline of the night was the Sarray vs. Zeda Ramier match, WALTER promo segment, LA Knight vs. Jake Atlas match, and the Candice LeRae, Indi Hartwell, & Dexter Lumis backstage segment which lost 46,000 viewers. NXT’s overrun gained an additional 71,000 viewers to end the night.
More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for May 5
The May 5th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW generate a sizable increase in overall viewership and for the first time in Dynamite history, topped the key demographic rankings for the night.
AEW drew 1,090,000 viewers and a #1 ranking in the 18-49 demographic on TNT.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that besides taking the top ranking for the first time ever on Wednesdays, AEW’s show also managed for the first time ever to top this past Monday’s episode of RAW and the prior week’s episode of SmackDown in the Males 35-49 demographic group. AEW reportedly had 279,000 viewers while RAW had 264,000 viewers and SmackDown had 223,000 viewers. In regards to head-to-head competition, the MLB game of Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs on ESPN drew 771,000 viewers and a 0.19 key demographic rating.
Meltzer also reported that the entire 45-minute Blood & Guts match averaged around 1,171,000 overall viewers and 584,000 key demographic viewers. The final 30 minutes of the match reportedly saw a shift in male and female viewership with male viewers rising from 383,000 to 447,000 while female viewers dropped from 184,000 to 167,000.
In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 548,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest gain was with their Males 18-34 group at 58.6% higher than last week’s show. AEW’s sole decline was with their Females 18-34 group at 23.5% lower than last week’s show.
In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 48.9% in overall viewership and up 50% in key demographic viewership.
AEW Dynamite started off with around 1,093,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the start of the Blood & Guts match which gained 113,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the Taz video segment and the Four-way Tag Team Eliminator match which lost 98,000 viewers.
